It’s kind of retarded knocking it down before we get planning permission for a new stand. Shed End RIP:(

Where are the Shed Heads going to go now? Main Stand and get an atmosphere going?

i dunno where i'll go now.. probably the blue stand
can't understand the thinking in knocking it down..
the 1 place where there was (a bit of) an atmosphere

They knocked it down so they can build a new stand in its place.
It will probably take til this time next year before its done but its a start knocking it anyway.
I think we should get one place in the main stand where all the shed heads and anyone else who wants to sing can go.
This would also help to get the whole stand singing.

the 1 place where there was (a bit of) an atmosphere in fairness it was the oldest part of the ground, and was out of place, and it had its days years ago....where to next year...i guess i'll be heading to the main stand and help get WR and The Stars idea of getting the main stand going...

they don't really have any choice now. i know a cupla are absoulte gobsh*tes but i'd say they will mingle with other supporters now. one things for certain, evry1 in behind away dug out when bohs are in town. i knew the shed end terrace was being levelled but got a bit of shock when i was in showgrounds this evening.

i think the blue stand will be the place next season..hopefully they will join us....
the 1 place where there was (a bit of) an atmosphere
the one place where they abuse the opposition/ref more than support the team you mean:D

How sad.
Quite ironic that the die hards of Sligo Rovers want nothing to do with the rest of Sligo Rovers.
Go to the blue stand. There'll be to many of the "bag of tayto" birgade in the new stand.Wouldn't it be easier to get an atmosphere going in the blue stand? considering the roof is lower and it's where the away fans will be.Also it would ensure Mr Davey would be stewarding that side of the ground!:p

they not die hards at all. 2 or 3 of em would make the effort to go to most away game but some of em you'll rarely see at an away game. i was talkin to "one punch" olly davey yesterday and he sez they have planning permission for the re-development of the shed end but money's the problem.

If they have planning permission they must have some sort of design for new stand, does anyone know what is will look like?

Heard indoor football / basketball arena and gym downstairs , clubhouse upstairs terracing at front similar to a greyhound stadium stand.

Plans are already done for the building. It consists of a gym and shower area on the bottom and 2 conference areas on the first floor overlooking the pitch with terracing at the front for spectators. It also overlooks the astro pitch

Article in the Champion today about the Shed, great photo of it in the title decider against Shams in 1977. People on the roof and everything, I kid you not!

i think days of terracing are gone. u need to look to get to an all seater at some stage. replacing with a seated stand would be the job. then just call the new stand 'The Shed' ala what chelsea did
said in other post just there dat shed was knocked due to asbestos.

all seater = no atmosphere...
can we not do this...SIMILAR TO OTHER PROJECTS
build the shed new but with terracing..
and then if we get in to europe put in permanent seats..
it can easily be done over 5 months

I know you are only relaying what you read Nutrino but I would query the asbestos thing.
The Shed had a corregated iron roof with wood beams and plaster/cement walls (with lovely white flaky paint).
I cannot see where the asbestos may be in situ.

I haven't got a clue what asbestos is nor its purpose, apart from it being pretty evil sh*t, but the word is it was in the roof...

Asbestos is a noncombustible fibre used primarily in the 70's and 80's in construction as a fire retardent and insulation material.
The problem arises when you try to break up the fibre, small particles (dust in effect) that result from the breaking up of the fibre are the particles that people inhale and can lead to lung problems including breathing difficulties and and lung cancer in later life.
As such material was usually placed in a roof cavity or void (similar to modern day insulation) I dont think the Shed could have had same in situ.
Only1Rovers
11/01/2007, 3:11 PM
Yea why would they want to insulate it? I doubt that was high on the agenda when they were designing it.

i know its terrible the shed is gone but on the atmosphere point really what atmosphere? the shed heads did do some singing but they get drowned out very easily. would all the "true fans" not be better off in the lovely new stand and make the most of the biggest area on the grounds?

It they roofed a section of the railway end, could make it into the new shed. Better view of pitch from the railway end it raised higher.

Its the Shed end for the new stand and gym but you will probably be looking at mountains of muck for awhile yet. The old entrance has been knocked so the new turnstiles and gate should hopefully be finished soon.

Its the shed end that'll be developed. They said the building will over look the pitch and the astro turf pitch.
Only1Rovers
13/01/2007, 5:04 PM
My point is, could they roof a section of the railway end while the development is taking place. No one is gonna get the crowd going in the new stand. If the hard core relocated under a roofed railway end some atmosphere could be created...
Midgit
13/01/2007, 7:33 PM
I agree but there is not a chance mate!
The club will be using most of thier funds to build at the shed end so their will be a lack of money to put a roof at the railway end.
