View Full Version : Transfer talk
Was told last week alright that Derek was holding off signing due to an issue with wages, didnt think it was true though?
No surprises with Mick, but the best of luck to him.

Heard GUFC are lining up a bid...
14:52 Wednesday January 10th 2007
David Beckham will leave Real Madrid in the summer, according to the club's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic.
Mijatovic told Sky Italia television that Real would not be renewing the player's contract.
The club had earlier indicated that it wanted to resolve the long-running Beckham contract issue one way or the other by the end of next week, and further talks were expected.
Beckham joined Real in July 2003 from Manchester United but he has failed to land a trophy at the Bernabeu.
Clubs from across Europe and the United States are believed to be monitoring Beckham's situation and may now make their move.
Beckham's representatives have been free to speak to other clubs from January 1.

Am ya  have you been taking your medication?
Anyway back on planet earth, Tony Cousins was saying about bringing in some more players. Does anyone know if he plans on having his full squad before the restart of training (the 22nd of Jan) or will he be adding a few players here and there until the end of the transfer window?

You are full time and are only starting training on the 22nd?!
Terry

some players are already doing there own training regimes, but the manager and co. are busy doing business (employing more players) so training will start when TC is ready, im sure. Its not as if the season is starting any time soon!!!

for the last number of years players have been given their own training regimes before the squad gets back together. We are about a fortnight later than last year but the team will be training twice daily plus going on a weeks training camp in spain.they will be playing upto 7 preseason games so they should be flying come march 9th,

I see Mark Leech has "retired" even though he's only about 22. I wonder if Tony could convince him to join United - he looked a very promising talent at Drogheda and then Bohs when he went on loan there.
was mentioned before when we signed Connor Gethins so I wouldnt be surprised. Whats his temperament like .

It would be great if Tony went for him because I think from what i watched off him last year he would be a good signing, he definately scores goals.:D why is he "retired"???

No
Galway Utd made 2 bids both turned down so the club and Tony moved on and started looking at other players to sign instead of gethins

pity as hes one player who wouldnt have any difficulty with the step up. Well from what I was told , he would love o go full time with GUFC so we only have to wait till next season, once we dont fall apart this season that is.

vinny Flaherty has gone over to Ipswich yesterday for a trial. hes told me GUFC were in touch also
Is he really good enough for Ipswich? I only seen him 3 or 4 times and he was excellent in them all, but I still think if he wants to develope better he should give GUFC a shot first before heading across to play in England (theres no way he'll be playing first team for years), do a kevin Doyle you could say, but thats my opinion.

he has a number of options - a contract offer from gufc and a trial with ipswich :D
id say he'l give ipswich a go and maybe if that doesnt work out ya never no

He's not good enough for LOI.
Ciano in a few years...possibly.
The standard in this league is much higher than the likes of Vinny realise. He's also to fond of the sauce.Any time i'm doing precautionary sweeps of the nightclubs he's there.

A bit like Matias O'Malley a few years ago, apparently the big thing in Galway Junior football at the time, had a Junior football mentality too. :p
Hopefully things work out for this lad, it would be nice to have another top local striker playing for the club.

in fairness if he has the chance of going to ipswich he's right to go and then try eL if it doesn't work out. has TC offered to sign him?

I've played with Vinny and he was never out on the sauce before a match.
He's a good player but I don't think he'd make the grade in England or in the Eircom premier.Having said that he has lots if talent and with better training, who knows.
Best of luck to the lad!
This thread should probably be edited imho

Ya I agree JW. Also just because he's in a night club doesnt mean he's on the sauce....unless of course he's falling around like an ass. Back onto signings that were hoping to announce. Anyone got any fresh news.. cant hear the gossip down in langer country.
PS City are set to make a few quid on Alan Bennett going to Reading apparently €300k theyre not gonna get caught like they did with K Doyle!!
transfer market for utd.i was expecting to hear something offical this week but nothing yet.theres still time left though and im sure theres alot of stuff going on behind the scenes.
first game less then a month away, cant wait.
is TC in england? this would explain why its so quiet on the transfer front. cant announce anything really when the players and manager isnt around for the photos and interviews!

I think the Shels players will find out if they are free agents today. O Halloran and Hawkins would be nice.
Is Steve Williams still with $ells ?
yes williams is still there on the grounds that he hasnt signed for anyone yet, as he has no plans on staying.
Hawkins is heading to dumfermline from what I hear.
O'Halloran is linked with most clubs in the premier so wont be to confident yet.

I see on the Bray Wanderers forum that Williams has apparently been training with them.

Tony is on a coaching course. Both Steve Williams and Dean Delaney are on frees as they were out of Contract at Shels.Williams lives in Dundalk and I doubt he would move to Galway. We are linked with 2 Keepers a Finn and an Aussie.Goughy will also be registered to play this year so i wouldnt panic about a keeper.
We still obviously need one badly gufct. Is the Aussie guy Bray's keeper? Talented if error-prone.
Greg O'Halloran would be a decent signing in my view.

i have played against him on a good few occasions and altough he is a good player, i've played against better young players. i had a good view of him in most of the games because i was man-marking him. he wasnt really special and only scored one in 3 games(yes i was marking him when he scored). there is a good few Under-21 players around that are as good as him if not better

No, this is himhttp://www.welsh-premier.com/player_detail_solo.php?player_id=1111
If Williams goes to Bray their aussie guy could be available. Saw him play against Cork last season he had a great game, I think he won man of the match.

friend told me vinny Flaherty scored twice for ipswich reserves against millwalls
i dont no if its true so dont shoot the messenger! :)
heard we were getting him on a loan deal for the summer months when there is no football in England. Jim Magilton, the manager there, is a good friend of Tonys.

I see the website has posted the signing of our new Goalie.
Philly, the Kildare County supporter who visits us here now & then posted this link on January4th!

any sign of any more new faces? Heard that we are struggling to bring in any more as the players tony were after were more interested in cash than playing for the club! Not looking good as I defintely think our squad is nowhere good enough to survive in the premier as it stand at the moment altough a lot of other clubs seem to be in the same boat too.

will be a few mini leagues in the premierleague this season, although cork and shels wont be in the mini league at the top now so your talking derry, drogs and bohs, then its another league of pats cork and sligo then its a dog fight between the rest and all the other teams down with us will have threadbare squads too so it will be very tight.thats my opinion of how it might look but theres always a few surprises and maybe with another 3/4 players we could be in that middle group.theres still plenty of time left though.

Sligo arent looking to good either at the moment and as it stands they will definitely be in the "dog fight" too.
Doesnt the transfer window close at the end of next week (end of January)?

We could do with signing one or two quality experienced players. I had hoped we would be able to attract some more established premier division players. It might happen yet, theres no need to panic . a lot of other clubs are in the same boat. With the exodus of top players to british clubs there arent so many options.
Im not panicking. I was only saying, as to get off to the best possible start in the league, I would like my full squad training together from the start before even any of the friendlies start so as to iron out any problems players would have in starting with a new squad.
