I am thinking of getting one for someone for Christmas. Anyone got any advice on ones that are good (or bad)? It would have to have good coverage of roads in Co Limerick and Cork.

Don't fall for the 100% coverage lark, its not 100% in Ireland yet, should be at some stage early 2007, I have a Garmin for a while, it works well but you don't actually use it that much, a lot better then a map though...

I got mine in Halfords, the staff seem to know their stuff but its on the pricey side, Harvey Normans have a few that are reasonable enough in comparision to Halfords prices!

Garmin are the ONLY Sat Nav with half decent maps .... the others might be mp3 players, cameras etc. but there are no good when you are lost ..... Garmin wipe the floor with the rest. If you are getting one then Garmin is the way to go.

Why buy before Christmas ....you'll shave €100 off it if you wait till after Christmas.

I honestly don't see the point of getting one with bluetooth and mp3, sure you'd have a phone kit/ radio in the car already???

Maps - pah! What happened to stubbornely driving round in circles, refusing point blank to stop and ask for directions?

I didn't get to where I am today by using maps. Of course I didn't intend to end up here...

Ox - good news on two counts.

Spoke to our Sat Nav Tecchies today about that unit - they said the Irish mapping and coverage on that unit is the best in the field (better than the Garmin) - and also they said that if you purchase it through me (I'll source it from our showroom and get it sent on) - it'll cost you €165 as opposed to the web price of €225

I use a goodmans GNV100 or something like that...they are good for the roads over here and price wize they aint bad either!!!
