A man has been shot dead in Dublin in the latest of a series of gangland killings that is piling pressure on the Government
does it really? Am i alone in not really caring that these guys are killing each other. While the death of the plumber was terrible, the death of the other guy wasn't & last nights shooting takes another scumbag out. What can the gardai do to stop it, thats if they want to.
You've answered your own question. It's all very well saying they only take out other scumbags, but they couldn't care less who they kill in the process - hence the innocent plumber, or the post office owner, or that young girl at the party, or the kids firebombed in a parked car etc.
These are the same gangs that are responsible for the "tiger kidnappings" of innocent post office and bank officials.
Last sting of a dying wasp indeed.
I suppose it would be ok if the criminals were killing each other in secluded areas of the country but as these become more common will soon have drive bys on O'Connell Street.
I get the impression not many gun crimes solved but I could be wrong. debatable if the Gardai have the means to control & solve this?

Less than 10%. Pity we don't see the same number of Gards available in these estates as are available at the beck and call of shell in Mayo.

Once you start questioning that can ask my traffic guards or guards outside the US embassy (when they not drunk...)

It is slightly different, as it's all overtime rather than standard tasks. It's unprecendented for there to be that many gards on duty in one operation, the operations targeting gangs haven't been authorised to the same level by McDowell.

I'm no expert but if you're going to murder someone wouldn't you just wait until the Garda had passed by before doing it? I don't see how more Gardai on the beat could stop a gangland killing.
So long as there's money to be made selling drugs we'll have drug crime, everything else is a task of containing the problem.

isnt it a shame that a small number of small minded people with only there own misguided intrests at heart could take that number of cops off the street where they are really needed .
the cops have to be so carefull now because of all the do gooder's and human right lawyers around now that dont care as long as they make a few bucks they'll defend these scum bags and have them out on the street again .
look at the mister C case he admitted he raped a 12 year old girl and still you he found a lawyer to defend him and help this self confessed peodo get out onto the streets !!!

No matter how much police that is deployed, these guys are too smart to leave any trail behind. It is real cat and mouse stuff.

As far as I know, and yes it can be hard to stomach, a person is entitled to be legally represented in court and if he can't afford it the judge can allow free legal aid. I think, though I'm open to correction that solicitors are bound by their oath to take these cases.
