I know a few of you picked this up on other threads, but I'm still hopping & will be emailing my thoughts to the National Broadcaster - for what it's worth!
Tony O’Donoghue was fairly outspoken in his review of the outcome of the FAIs decision making process for next season’s domestic league.
Like one or two of his Montrose colleagues, Tony has developed a penchant for making rather than reporting the news.
I’m told he’s a very tough operator on the ground and somehow always manages to get the gigs he wants.
On this occasion he showed characteristic laziness. Any reporter worth his salt would have had the possible outcomes for Dundalk, Waterford and Galway signalled well in advance had they studied the criteria.
Dundalk & Waterford’s proud records of trophy success were completely irrelevant to this process & Tony showed himself to be a true amateur in failing to familiarise himself with the selection criteria prior to the official announcement.
Unsurprisingly he took the easy way out, had a pop at the FAI, dug out a few quick stats and completely ignored the facts. Why be a reporter, when the public service broadcaster will give you a generous package of salary+expenses for sounding off before the nation with your own opinions?
The reality is in one short season we could reverse positions with Waterford, Dundalk or maybe even Wexford if they get in! We know that but Tony just wanted to push his angle.
