Anyone like to give it a go? Given the doubts about Shels vis-a-vis players, it's very tough but I'll have a tough stab.

5-2 Derry City
3-1 Drogheda
4-1 Shelbourne
4-1 Cork
7-1 Bohs
25-1 Anyone else

My money would be firmly on Shels winning it on goal difference from Derry on the last day of the season.

2007 might be a whole different ball game though.

Have to agree with you on that;)

I think that Cork are slightly too big.

Of course what I meant was "2006" betting on next year's league - ie the book will be closed at the end of the month.
Or so it would seem :)

do you want a shovel there JW :D

i'm also going for shels to win on goal diff from derry and will double it up with both managers departing before the new year :D

JW.

The shovel analogy is apt alright!
Will be interesting to see the firms' prices. Drogheda and Derry are my favs next year anyway.

Nice odds those. Put me down for 10,000 euro on Shels. I will even travel to Inchicore to pick up my winnings. :D

In Inchicore? You must be crazy.

I think this 2006 thread needs to be sticky :D

You can add cork to that list of top 3 contenders - you've priced them up wrong

perhaps deliberately to see if anyone spots the value? :p

JW.

I don't think Cork are wrong at 4-1. Very thin squad and will need a few additions, assuming O'Flynn doesn't exceed his 10pc quota of games or whatever it is next season.

If cork hadnt lost in Bray they basically would have gone into the last game level with Derry and Shels with a better GD (or so I'm led to believe -possibly ballocks!)

therefore incorrect and indeed wrong price IMO for a team that will receive a cheque from Mr UEFA- will have new investors
and will probably splash the cash as well

If cork hadnt lost in Bray

What was the score?

wws

2-1 Bray

2-1 Bray

Precisely. If Derry had managed to beat Bohs a few weeks before the end of the season, they would have won the league by 2 points...

typical bohscentric rubbbish

the results which cost derry the league was the 1-1 with Pats....

According to the Post today, Hills have betting on it. Predictably enough, I can't find it though on their website.
They were shortish Shels and Derry, but 6-1 Drogheda and 16-1 Bohs. In the First Division, they were 11-2 Harps.

and cork?

Drogs 6/1 is nice
they really will have the strongest squad

JW.

Stuey 'I'm Angry Tony' Byrne is a big addition to Drogs, plus they started off by putting the Finnish-ing touches to their squad with that goalkeeper
Likely more to come and a fit Fabio
6s definitely big
Cork were 3-1 or something like that

Now now, don't be fighting.

UCD are greater scuds - 0 -0 when we played them at the brandywell (twice I think) whilst Shels were guffing them 6!

incorrect Lofty

statistically UCD drew 0-0 8 times - therefore the result was niether singular nor unexpected

Can't believe I wasn't the first to pick up on this!

I thought Waterford looked big to win Division 1 next season.

you will give me 7/1 on the bozo's but 25/1 on Rovers and Pats?

them odds are ridicilious. and thats me being nice. They seem pretty sensible to me. 25-1 on a bottom-half of the League team with who don't seem to be spending much and a newly promoted team.

In fairness its hard to look outside the top 4, even for Bohs.

DvB

I still reckon Drogheda for all their shiny new additions have a major disadvantage, Paul Doolin, i can see him making a dogs danglies of the league no matter how big or talented his squad is!

I'll be backing Derry next year personally with Dundalk to win the first division unless Waterford make some shiny new signings of their own!!

Agree with DvB.

Also having 4 teams on 4/1 or less is disgraceful from any bookie. Even mde up ones

Drogs at 6/1 super price with W Hills, i'd say get on. Other prices are Derry 15/8, Shels are 2/1 and Cork are 5/1. My advice is get on Drogs. They are only 4/1 with boylesports

JW.
15/12/2006, 8:31 PM
Given the strength of the top four, it would take a huge effort for anyone else to win the league in one season having not challenged for a few years. Bohs at 16-1 with Hills remain a speculative punt because of the money influx.
Drogheda definitely look big at 6-1. My prices were rough enough but they're similar to Boyle's.
