Figures announced at Fridays League AGM show Galway United just edged out champions Shamrock Rovers (1,100 to 1,081) for the highest average attendance in the eircom League First Division. In the Premier Derry City ousted Cork City as the club with the highest average attendance in the Premier Division with 3,127.

United also finished top with the largest attendance at a First Division game with the meeting of United and Shamrock Rovers at Terryland Park on Friday October 6th. With both clubs chasing title glory the official attendance was recorded at 3,210.

Overall attendances in the eircom League totaled 351,021 with the Premier Division accounting for 257,745 of that figure and the First Division the remaining 93,276.

Galway United would like to thank the "Maroon Army" for all their support in 2006

sduffy, In all fairness to UTD they got rid of the long black fai coats about 5 years ago. Have maintained measurements of attendance since and each game is all ticket with season ticket holders card numbers recorded at each game as well. After each game the figures are brokedown to adult/student/u16/complimentaries and season ticket holders and faxed to merrion square. The match tickets are all colour coded and numbered so a reconciliation process is fairly tight and quick to calculate. from a marketing point of view it has made it easier to identify the type of people who support us and it is no coincidence the crowds are increasing with this knowledge. funnily enough the only game where season ticket holders were not recorded was the rovers game as i myself walked in the big gate and just flashed my ticket. This probably was because of segregation and the big crowd. With the season ticket season details probably guestimated for that game from the previous 18 home games of the season because the statistics were available. which is fair enough

every club has to fax the attendance at their games to the league within 3 hours of the final whistle. S. Duffy for a man who knows so much how come youu missed that. Believe there is trouble brewing in Oriel both on and off the field as Mr. Matthews makes his presence felt.
