In relation to the threads around about EL clubs being ripped off/transfers etc...
Just wondering what players have tranfered between EL clubs for a fee?
Have EL clubs ever bought players abroad?
Jason Byrne and Eamon Zayed spring to mind. There must be many more....

Longford bought Robbie Martin off UCD for about €10k last season.

€28k - rip off of the century - valued by the eircom league too!

As far as I know, Longford paid a fee for 3 players from Drogheda Danny O Connor, Gary Cronin and Steven Gough...buy in bulk and now get rid in bulk

I think Derry paid Cork about €10k for Stephen O'Flynn.

Nearly all clubs would have bought players for transfer fees over the years. Obviously it isn't as common now as clubs just can't afford it.

Our best fees ever - a 19 year old Brendan Bradley from Derry City for £100 (1969) and Johnny Speak from Ballymena United for £2000 (1994).

I think our selling Steve Williams to Shels in 99 was a record for a keeper, 30k punt i seem to recall

Should the question not be restated as "how many players have been transferred between EL clubs for a fee that went through the books"?

The only Bohs ones I cant think of in recent years are:

(open to correction on figures)

Trevor Molloy from St. Pat's, £30,000 + Jamie Harris 2000
Fergal Harkin from finn Harps, £8,000
Tony Grant from Rovers, €15,000
Mark O'Brien from Rovers, €15,000
We may have also paid a fee for Bobby Ryan off Galway.

We sold Tony Grant to Drogs for €15,000 + Mark Leech (cheque bounced twice and had to be taken out of Drogs Uefa Cup Gate Receipts  )

That one is right enough. It was a clause in his contract that he could leave for £8000 if we were relegated.

Fantastic player.

Harps paid £18,000 (punts) for James Mulligan in 1997 and sold him to Cork for £15,000 (punts) in 2000.

I was under the impression that we were still owed those transter fees from drogs according to local sources. one thing is for sure we are owed for dillons transfer to shels good luck getting that in a hurry!

You could well be right, although I thought it was a condition of the Barrett transfer that they coughed up for Gartland as well.

2 points, if they still owe for transfer fees how did they get a licence, and if we are still owed we should do the league a favour and attend the winding up hearing as a creditor. ;)

Awful lot of cheques bouncing up Drogheda way. What's the story with that?

Kildare County "sold" Wayne Russell to Derry for a fee that was meant to be in around 12k. It wasn't done in a, em, above board fashion, and Wayne got injured so I think we only got a small amount.

We did buy Sean Francis off Longford Town. €7,000 I think. What a bad decision that turned out to be...

No Drogs (or parties connected with them at least) paid up alright, paid for Barrett up front 55k and eventually paid up the 10k for Gartland when the last Licensing renewal was coming around. Shels owe us something like 2 or 3 thousand apparently, out of the 40k he was sold for. I don't think we're all that high on their creditors priority list!

The transfer fee was more than likely agreed to be paid in installments so nothing illegal done if so.

I remember watching a Bohs game years ago and distinctly remember the commentator saying Bohs had bought Trevor Molloy of St. Pat's for £55,000 punts. Not sure if its true tho...anyone clarify?

Sad I know but that is one of my happiest memories of Harps .:(

All we heard all week was how Derry had the Mulligan deal in the bag. Then , i just happened to switch on aertel and see the "Finn Harps sign James Mulligan" heading.:) The fact that we got him ahead of Derry was just the icing on the cake.

That was back in the days when the board were actually capable of finding a sponsor for the club though!!

I thought it was 14,000 punts and Donegal Creameries coughed up the spondoolies.

Not sure technically it's illegal anyway, but that's just another if to add to the equation really, and assumes that they'd be meeting agreed repayments anyway - 3 winding up orders in a season suggests they're not too hot on meeting repayment deadlines :D

I vaguely recall reading that Pats paid £40,000 to Athlone for Trevor Molloy in the late 90's, can anyone clarify.

Also, I think the real question is what is the highest fee between el clubs.

Fergal Harkin - Didn't know we paid for him back! (great bit of business by Harps)
Tony Grant - I'm sure your right
Mark O'Brien - Correct
Bobby Ryan - £7,500/€10,000
Tony Grant to Drogs + Mark Leech loan til season end - €9,000

Oh yeah, I meant to write €10k not €15k for Grant to Drogs, I was getting it mixed up with what we paid for him.

Absolutely not. He only signed a short term deal with Athlone and signed for us the week before the U20 world cup (thanks, Brian). Sold him for 40k to Bohs 2 league titles later (as mentioned)

Our record fee is for Packie Lynch from UCD for about 16k. Loads of transfer fees go unmentioned.
