Venables gets sack at Elland Road at Christmas... McCarthy takes over... Venables massages Merrion Square egos, they get all flushed with excitement and appoint him manager, allowing him to do as much media work as his grubby little paws can rake in. The Cork gippo decides he might as well play for "his" country after all, comes back to an orgy of arse-licking from the Dublin press, then proceeds to scramble two draws in Albania and Georgia and decides he'll finally retire from international football, leaving us in the lurch for a second time.
Just about now Sven gets the chop at Soho Square and Easter arrives with the English tabloids going on an all-out campaign to get "Our Tel" back from the Paddies. FAI accept their advances (and a hefty cheque for compensation), cast their net once more and come up with....
