I was talking to his better half last wednesday and she was telling me, said he hated Stockport and wasn't kean on West Ham either. Falkirk was his favoured move.

The only fee i think they are due is that Player U23 development fee thingy, because she said he was out of contract.

That's about as much as an eL club like UCD would get for him anyway I think.

Well fingers crossed they get a fair few bob for him because in fairness he has become the player he is today because of UCD. Who decides this fee ?

Some arbitration committe or something. I hear it's a pretty mathematical formula that's used by UEFA. Only problem is a club official told me we wouldn't be due anything for him as he was moving abroad but I don't think he knew what he was on about.

As far as I know if the clubs can't come to an agreement, some panel makes a decision based on criteria like how long he's been at the club, his wages, international appearances, etc.

The English Premiership outside the Champions League sides is muck, indisputable.
Most leagues are though. Middlesbrough making the final of the UEFA Cup showed the level that competition is at, I would expect a good team that parachuted in from the CL to be hot favourites. How good really are the teams from the lower reaches of Serie A or La Liga, let alone the Bundesliga or Ligue 1. Football has got to the stage where there is a huge discrepancy between the top handful of sides and the rest - does anyone really believe that Englands CL representatives next year won't be the same as this year? Even the EL, which has been relatively competitive in recent years, has only had 6 different teams in the top 4 since summer soccer came in. This year there was a 16 point gap between 4th and 5th and last year it was 19 points between 3rd and 4th.
When it comes to comparing leagues it's pretty difficult, because nobody gets to see lower ranked teams play each other. I would have very little hesitation in saying that if EL teams played Scottish teams, 1st v 1st etc, then the Scottish teams would come out on top in most, if not all of the games (I couldn't see Waterford beating Dunfermline to be honest). Similarly with Scotland and England, the English teams would be well on top in most games.
There's no disgrace in not having as strong a league as another country, the important thing is that we move in the right direction to close the gap. As many before me have said, it's frustrating to see players leaving to play at a lower standard (roughly the lower reaches of SPL, and below championship level in England) rather than stay in the country and have the chance to play in Europe. However, many great players have played in some pretty shíte leagues in return for big paydays so I can't blame a player for going wherever they'll be better paid. At the moment that won't be Ireland unfortunately.

I think we tend to get very low figures from the commitee because the basic figure they use is twice his annual salary and then add or subtract from that extras based in appearences and the like.
Because salaries at UCD are quite low we tend to get less than another club would for the same player.

Still, if Cawley without any international honours was worth around €25k we must be due at least more than that.
