Press Conference in the Burlington at 9pm tonight
(avoiding RK debate - can have its own thread)
I don't think anyone would be surprised when/if Mccarthys resigned. I think its time for him to go as things will just deteriate & no matter what happens on the pitch will only get worse.
I think its very sad the way McCarhtys been treated in the last few months - sure he made some bad decisions including the RK matter but its only the national football team & he didn't kill anyone.
Those 'Keano' in Lansdowne last month IMO were a shameful turnaround from the way people fell over themselves to praise McCarthy against Holland 6 months previous.... Have we finally become fully anglo-ised?

At least Dunphy consistently always hated McCarthy...
but let's face it, he hates everyone (except Keano)

The Dutch game was more like 12 months ago. I agree that the press went on a bit of a witch hunt after him!
We seem to have v.short memories, after all he's the only Irish manager ever to take the team to any championships!
However, on recent form (not the sh!t thats been hurled since the RK saga), its probably right that the next manager has time to get a feel for the team before the next world cup qualifiers, we've pretty much lost any hope of getting to portugal!

Brian Kerr, European Championship winner twice over???
Charlton, Irish manager : 1988, 1990, 1994 ????????

I was also confused..
..either he forgot that Charlton got us to 2 world cups and a European championship
or he thinks that Mick McCarthy was born in Ireland and tryng to make a racial comment!
I appologise for the Brian Kerr slip, but I was talking about the senior team.
Also, just because you're not born in Ireland doesn't mean you're not Irish, what about Mr. De Valera (to name just one)?
Jack Charlton was english, no problem, he was fantastic. Mick McCarthy has always gone to great lenghts to demonstrate who he is.
To say that I am making a racist comment is ridiculous. I think it is more racist to deny the guy the right to express his nationality the way that he wants.

Errr...
We are just confused how you failed to mention that Charlton got us to 3 championships!

I think the point was of a manager who is Irish rather than a manager of Ireland.
I disagree that all hope of getting to portugal are gone.
We win in Switzerland - very possible as they only won in Dublin cos we so bad.
Switzerland lose in Russia - very likely.
We match Switzerlands other results - they've already drawn in Albania so if we won there be a 2 point bonus to start.
Its very unlikely we'd win the group but 2nd place & another playoff is far from impossible.

It was always going to happen. I just can´t wait to see the faces of all the pro-keane idiots when we do no better with a new man in charge

I think we are mainly going to hear from the Anti-Keane camp now that the Anti-McCarthy's got their way...
... It's going to be a fun few months...
... Jeez, lads, what will we talk about when RK decides to retire as i expect him to!
