Just back from the radisson where they had an outside broadcast of George Hook's show. He interviewed Nick Leeson mostly about something that went on in singapore that brought some british bank down  . But George did mention how Leeson is now involved in " association football " with Galway United.
Nick however was somewhat upstaged by a duet performed by Dana and Johnny Giles.Giles has a good voice ...........pity about Dana:D

hehe, some night - if i remember correctly conor, i think the shades were coming up the road (if you remember that:D) and i was trying to 'hide' it, if thats possibly with a flare. great weekend, czech republic and slovakia should be savage, if kilkenny is anything to go by
Nial O'Reilly was on Newstalk yesterday afternoon and gave a good, pragmatic account of United's hopes for the new season and what the club has been doing.

Do he say whether he thinks we'll be in it or not?;)

Can you give more detail JW on what he said?
It was pretty general lads - explaining the path the board had taken. One point which stuck out was Nial's that getting into the new league was not the be-all and end-all, and it is something I've thought about myself a fair bit: one season in Division 1 is hardly going to kill a club and there will be subsequent promotion and relegation systems as before.
Certainly, it did no harm to Shamrock Rovers to be in Division 1 this season: rather, I imagine it stabilised them somewhat with their rookie board and so on.
Nial didn't say whether he thought we were in or out but one would get the impression that he's fairly confident, as indeed I am!

well if your quoting him saying "getting into the new league was not the be-all and end-all" it would sound like to me that they are getting prepared for the worst and that they arent to confident now? but I could be wrong too !
thats the tone thats been coming out in the last few weeks since we lost to dundalk and its kinda worrying.i for one would be gutted if we dont get in to it.it may have been been good for rovers to have a season in div 1 to stabilise them but we dont need stabilising because of the hard work of the board and fans and so it would be a huge let down for everyone if we dont get in.but lets try stay positive and lets hope that at the christmas party we will be celebrating our entry into the new league:) .

I wouldn't say there's a feeling of "well maybe next year" just yet.I think the Board are realists and are aware that we may just come up short for entry into the Elite League next year.Having said we have plenty of reasons to be confident we'll be invited into the league as was pointed out on the website last week. The key word is "invited".Waterford are 100% certain they'll be in it.As it stand Waterford are in the 1st Division after been relegated by Dundalk. If they're so confident we can be too. They'll only surpass us on the field......and not by much.
I firmly believe that if the FAI go by the IAG's reccomendations we'll be in it ahead of either UCD or Bray.
From speaking to a friend who's brother studies up there(UCD) and has a general interest in LOI they aren't vastly confident.I think they'll be in it but you never know. The defeatist attitude on this board by some is premature IMO........We've 2 weeks on tenterhooks but if this were any other year we'd be looking forward to Buckley,Station Road and Rathbane for definite. We may yet be planning trips to Turners, the Brandywell and Sligo.:)

That was certainly not the impression I got from listening to him.
