ok,so this season is over and we were very close to it being a great season but we had a few passengers in the squad and so IMO we need a bit of a clearout.
the following players id keep if we do get promoted:
billy,raf,foley,gethins,odowd,russell,reilly,charl es,cooke,keane.
players id keep we if stay in the 1st division:
all of the above plus barry, murph, carter, mixie, obrien.
thats only 15 so obviously we would need a few new guys even if we stay in this division, what do the rest of ye think???

i agree with you. i hear that barry ryan could be signing for us from pats cause david forde is going to dunfermline with steven kenny. just hope all of the players do stay and fight for the club.

Well Gethins in now an offical Finn Harps player again, so we would have to buy him rather than keep him! I read elsewhere, that O'Brien made the 1st division team of the year, so he wont be going anywhere either. Also, IMO it would be stupid to get rid of Barry, the lad is consistantly our top goalscorer now and even if we did bring in a "bigger" striker barry would be good to have on the bench. Murph also has the talent, just because he had one bad season, doesnt mean he cant pull himslef out of wherever he is! We all know what potential the guy has and its a matter of Tony getting him to use it, another mad call if we got rid of him IMO.

even though murphs has had one of the worst season of any player in the first division he still has to be kept as he has massive ability, i know he hasnt shown it this year but we all know he's capable.
i think the two main things we need to do is keep tony cousins at the helm for as long as possible and get conor gethins at terryland on a full time basis. both have made massive impacts since they have arrived and i dont think we'd be as far as we are up the table without either of them

Murphs has to be kept - he'll improve for the hoped-for step-up. A raft of this season's squad are not good enough for the Premier.

Wouldnt be to sure of Billy stayin he hinted it might be his last but i reckon hes good enough for another few seasons even at a higher level. Murphs will have to work his ******** off to stay IMO if he cant do it the first div he'll not do it in the Premier. Barry Ryan wouldnt be a bad acquisition. O Brien is good enough for me along with Moran, O Dowd, Foley, Charles, Keane, Frawley, Clery, Cooke, the rest are gonna be dodgey, while they are good players in their own right i'm not sure are they gonna make the top grade.

It is possible that they could raise their game in the top flight.

i think derek is definitely good enough to play in the premier, he can just beat players so easily. he mightn't always have an end product but he scares the ****e out of defenders.
I dont know about barry, i know he has scored a good few goals this year and most years but 6 of his goals this year were against kilkenny and lets be honest i'd score agaist them myself. if he can regain the form he had when murphs was here first he'd be grand

Number One Priority Is Sign Conor Gethins

Of the current squad the following players I would be keen to hold on to;

Billy Cleary, Raf Cretaro, Wesley Charles, David Cooke, Ciaran Foley, Conor Gethins, Barry Moran, Alan Murphy, John Russell, Ronan Frawley, Alan Keane, Derek O'Brien

The following players I would prefer to see leave the club;

Alan Gough, Mick O'Connell, Philip O'Reilly (ok player but his head is up his a@$e where his discipline comes into account), Mixie Harty, Nigel Keady, Fran Carter.

I have to assume that other fringe players such as Juan Rojas, Liam McKenna, Michael Kennedy, Tomas Gruczka do not reach the mark for Cousins and therefore should leave also.

I believe we will be in the First Division again next season and with a couple of new signings we should be capable of getting promoted for 100% footballing reasons.

First off you are obviously a WUM !

Get rid of Goughie ???

Its Mick O'Donnell !!!!

A large group of the other players are members of the u21 squad, and have only appeared on our first team due to large number of suspensions and injuries. They are kids some of them and definite players for the future !

Are you even a GUFC supporter?

Terry can Utd afford to keep the same players next season if we dont get promoted.

So what are the chances of Utd getting in this new league on december 11th, think that is the date.

Terry
21/11/2006, 12:44 PM
Yes we can afford it, GUFC will be announcing a surplus this season even with these players and I wouldnt expect anything less next year too even in the first division, especially with the increase in the prices of entry.

The increases are if we make it up . Season Tickets will not be €175 if we dont.

GUISAUltra

so will those 25 euro off vouchers still work if the ticket price doesnt go up to 175

gufct
21/11/2006, 1:45 PM
yes they will .There will be a note on your season ticket if you buy before 12th and we dont go up!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont think we'll have too many employees poached should we stay in the first div. Raf/Wes/Cousins/foley would be the first targets id imagine. Raf could head back to northwest now SC is gone.

Terry
21/11/2006, 2:40 PM
Sure didnt Raf, Wes and a couple of others sign contracts till the end of next season?

GUFCT, I have already paid in full for my season ticket next season. Does this mean that if we dont go up that the club will be refunding me a few quid?

Tir Oilean

Not sure Terry. Thought we had dificulty offering players any more than one year contracts due to finances. GUFCT/Pa Dunne will probably know this

You are clearly not a united suporter if you want our best player to leave. You are probably the only person that wants Goughie gone. Also Its actually Reilly not O Reilly and he has been a consistent performer this season, He may have received a lot of yellows this season but he received less than Foley did last year yet you have him on your team for next year.

You also have alan Murphy who was a disaster for us this season on it. He only scored eight goals this year, half of which were from penalties. Yet both Carter and Reilly who is a Defender which you probably dont know as you are not a fan both scored four from play.
