Yeah, it seems mad to be honest .... freeware (because everyone and his mother uses it) is the best way of finding what viruses are doing the rounds and profiling them to get a signature. Thats what makes their other packages so good.

They are changing from version 7.1 to 7.5.
You can get a freeware version of 7.5

I have AVG too, hope they do indeed have that new version as freeware, as I'm very glad with AVG. Never had any issues with virusses, despite visiting some 'dangerous' sites (no questions about the nature of the sites please!! :D)
An alternative worth checking: www.antivir.de , also freeware. A German friend of mine uses it for several years now, and never had any issues with virusses.
Also, there's a Dutch freeware provider who has an all-in-one protection that combines anti-spyware with anti-virus. I will check if I find the URL where one can download.

Avast is the business. It's also a fairly compact programme and takes up less space.

Never use free stuff, because basically, I never need to.
Trend Micro Internet Security 2007 (http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/desktop/pc-cillin/evaluate/overview.htm)
Norton Internet Security 2007 (http://www.symantecstore.com/dr/sat5/ec_dynamic.main?sp=23&pn=20&sid=49997)
McAfee Internet Security Suite (http://uk.mcafee.com/root/package.asp?pkgid=272)
I normally use AVG as well, although at the moment I'm still on a 90 day trial of Norton with the new laptop, I'm dreading to think how long it will take me to uninstall all the memory-hogging parts of Norton's in order to install AVG free.

I use AVG like the majority here but also use Adaware quite often, as well as Skybot from time to time. Unfortunately after clicking a link on Msn Messenger a while back a virus came with it so that was the end of my Messenger days... Just a warning for people to never ever click on a link which says 'is this u? :P [/link]' as it does bring a lot of hassle.

I use Trend Micro Neat Suite and Microsoft Windows Defender. I also steer clear of dodgy websites. I never browse the Internet using an account with Administrative privillages and therefore it's very difficult for malicious software to run on my machine.
