3rd tier?

If this 3rd tier in the EL goes ahead, then who's likely to be in it???

Down here, Douglas Hall? College Corinthians? Avondale?............Ramblers???:p :D

Wayside? Cherry Orchard? Carrick? St. Michaels? one of the Mullingars? Fanad? Birr?

And there's many more.........who do you think will be in it?

Don't think Cherry Orchard have the facilities. Wayside have their own ground but it would be up to the standard.

Belgrove, who had an EL U21 team may be interested. They play up in Home Farm's pitch in Whitehall. Plenty of money having sold their own ground for £8million about 5 years ago.

Clubs like Parkvilla in Navan, who play in Claremount stadium could be interested, haviing just installed floodlights. However their pitch is surrounded by a running track.

Arklow Town have a smashing set up, including stand.

St James Gate still have their facilities intact, but are playing in the 2nd tier of the LSL.

Tolka Rovers are installing floodlight and Malahide have a great set up but no lights yet.

I think there won't be too many teams queueing up to enter this league, at least not initially.

It'll be quite expensive (in terms of travel) and the clubs will be playing Senior clubs' reserve sides a lot of the time. I'd say a lot of clubs will adopt a wait and see approach.

None of the Child Processing & Export plants in Dublin (Cherry Orchard etc) will be tempted, they have minimal interest in senior football and know which side their bread is buttered.

Belgrove will probably enter, possibly Bangor too. Mount Merrion if they have the resources and are admitted. I can't see facilities being too much of an impediment judging by the eL precedent. Leftfield candidate - Pat's CY? Relatively obscure in purely footballing terms, but good facilities at Irishtown Stadium.

It will be organised along broadly regional lines, with the number and geographical configuration of groups depending on the number of entrants. The original FAI proposal envisaged two groups of ten (and incidentally co-opted the Inishowen, Mayo and Kerry Leagues, Garda, Belgrove, Mullingar Athletic, Trinity and Tullamore into its hypothetical set-up.)

Absolutley. I think the Third Division could be split up into 2 sections, very much like Serie C1 & C2 (4th tier) is in Italy. If that is the case then we could see alot of junior clubs interested.

If a side like Tralee, Castlebar, Westport, Mullingar or Wexford et al. manage to top the 3rd division there should be the option there of joining the League proper and entering through a promotion/relagation play-off with the bottom or bottom 2 teams in the 2nd tier if they so wish. Though going by what has happened in recent years, Kilkenny, Monaghan U and Limerick would be fighting for their lives to retain League status.

I think that's the idea - a non-reserve team that tops the 3rd tier can get promoted, but if a reserve team tops the 3rd tier no-one gets promoted. So a team that drops down into the third tier could be stuck there for years.

I think the top non-reserve team in each section (but they must be in the top four of the section overall) play off against each other and the winner of that plays off against the bottom First Division team.

Something like that anyway, but probably more complicated.

It's hard to see really, they have won nearly everything possible in their leagues and cups so it may be getting a little boring for them so might make the jump :confused: :ball:

With regards to Dublin clubs, there's no point in entering for the craic. Entry fee is €5,000 and it'll still be hard to get promoted at that. The entry fees for senior football are even bigger. A club would have to have some deal of forward planning and be confident they could compete for a fanbase with the big 4 Dublin clubs. St. Francis, St James' Gate, Home Farm and the Dublin City breakoff couldn't establish temselves safely at senior level.

Unless clubs are prepared to pay players they will not succeed. I can't see Crumlin doing this. This would probably also rule out the likes of Tolka and Arklow. However, Malahide were paying last year, but I think that has stopped, they may decide to go down that road again.
