A brief report on the latest fans forum when Peter Taylor met the fans for the first time. A packed house and lots of questions but nothing too revelationary though Taylor is very keen to do well.
FANS FORUM - OCTOBER 17th
Another fans forum was held last night. Another packed crowd of 600 fans in attendance and broadcast live on Radio Humberside.
Peter Taylor and Adam Pearson were the guests and faced the usual barrage of questions. A case of deja vue however as it only seemed five minutes since the last new manager was unveiled and everyone was on a similar high.
Nothing too substantial was discussed but here are the main points raised.
Adam Pearson is attempted to gain extended use of Boothfery Park after we move to the KC. He hopes that the property developer who owns the site will allow city to have an extended stay here for training and reserve team purposes. Plans to move to the Boulevard appear to be dead in the water now - so much for the council spending £750k on it to be a joint reserve venue then! Taylor is keen on training at Boothferry Park rather than on the Cottingham training pitch.
We have signed Delaney because Taylor rates him very high and if we did not act someone else would, he can play anywhere from attacking midfield to centreback! His true position is not known but he wants him. to strengthen the squad be it defence or midfeld.
Steve Burton impressed on Saturday and they are to offer him a new contract so hopefully not just one game and out! Taylor knows Alexander from his Gillingham days as he tried to sign him then and rates the player.
They are to look at all existing players and do not foresss the need for too many changes at present though a better picture will be achieved after a few games. They will review Branch & Jevons at the appropriate time but both impressed. They would be on decent wages if we signed them permanently though! Taylor wants a squad of around 24 who are potential first teamers so there could be further shedding to reduce the squad.
Dean Windass was again mentioned but again the rumours denied.
Colin Murphy is expected to join as Assistant manager and Steve Butler will be his coach. Taylor will be a tracksuit manager and will be on the training pitch every day with the team.
Taylor is very enthusiastic to come here and put us on the map. If bigger clubs come in for him again in a couple of years then both he & the club have done well. There will be no inflexible formations and apprpriate formations and tactics will be made for games. Taylor hopes to take us through two divisions as soon as possible. He rates the squad as fairly comparable to that of Brighton though lacking Zamora.
Break even is currently 8500 but this will rise to 9500 at the KC though gates may need to be higher if we signed players such as Branch. We are not in debt and one of few clubs making money.
Taylor will not tolerate any drinking and club fines will be in operation if anyone fails to be profesional. He does not intend to publicly criticise players but players will be dropped if performance levels drop.
Glennon joins Carlisle today and we are to sign a young keeper to replace him next week.
Both Taylor and Pearson were very enthusiastic about the future and aim to bring success. They could cope with a season of consolidation but we can safely assume they do want promotion this season if we can quickly catch up with the leading pack.
We also have an open day on December 16th to look around the new stadium
