Erratic goalkeeper David Forde has left Galway United for the lure of Champions' League football with Welsh outfit Barry Town.

Town won the League of Wales last season and the Galway native probably views the move as a step up in his career. Former team-mate, Scott Morgan, was the architect of Forde's transfer.

Morgan was released by Galway this summer after two seasons with the club, and he organised a trial for Forde at Barry Town. The young 'keeper impressed, and he has reportedly signed a two-year-contract.

Unfortunately from Galway United's perspective, Forde was out-of-contract so they will not be entitled to any transfer fee.

The Tribesmen will now be hoping that Limerick native Eddie Hickey commits himself to the club next season. Hickey was sidelined last season as Forde retained his place on the first team - despite some astoundingly erratic performances.

Indeed, many observers rate Hickey as the superior goalkeeper, and things will not be so bad for the Westerners if the 28-year-old stays on at Terryland Park.
