All players have expressed an interest to stay

Just read Mahon's comments in the College Tribune there. He said the club has met with all the players recently and they've all expressed a desire to play. He reckons some might still move on but it's a positive indication at least. He said some players have progressed as individuals but that we haven't really progressed as a team and he hopes to bring in 2-3 experienced players in the close season. He also said he felt the meeting with the IAG went well.

Of course one would assume that's without relegation. The likes of Dicker and Quigley in the First Division would be ridiculous.

We ain't going down. Whoever gets stuck is in a playoff. As far as I know letters have gone to the clubs telling them this also. We're grand. Let the players stay with us & challenge for something (bar the league cup) next year......

Top 5/6 is well within our grasp if certain aspects of the squad are improved.

good news about the current squad wanting to stay, but i'm sure i've heard about this intention to bring in experienced players time and time again before but to no avail.

in particular, a year ago there was a clear need to bring in at least one tried-and-tested striker, and mahon said as much in an interview, he was unable to find one. are there any indications he's likely to enjoy more success this year?

Burnsie, I was thinking about the exact same thing. I think if UCD don't get relegated we'll be in a strong enough position. We could hold onto to some excellent young and further experienced players. We also have Keith Doyle who is an excellent recent addition. We're moving to a new ground and have an excellent track record of paying players. I think in the event of avoiding relegation we should get in at least one experienced head.

Who's likely to be available up front? Looking at the top scorer list, only Georgescu in Bray and maybe Shels' O'Neill if they're cutting back on wages might be available. O'Neill is unlikely to join us as someone else would offer him more money. Who are we going to sign?
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

I'd love to see us sign him. He'll probably go to a bigger club if he's leaving Bray though.

I think we'd have to look elsewhere Ciaran. It'd be a risk, but surely there's an experienced League 1 striker who'd be up for another couple of seasons back home.

Word is that a couple of clubs are sniffing as usual. That time of year again. Heard last night of possible interest in Darren Quigley from Brighton & Hove Albion. Would be great to see him battling it out again with his old U-21 teammate and now international keeper...and winning...and getting international caps! Any fee would be at least E100k apparently. Well, according to Casey anyway. Make of that last part what you will.

Who is Casey? The dilemma for Quigley is that he owns the No. 1 spot at UCD and he has as much first team football and experience as he likes while he remains. Should he move on then he is taking the risk of becoming second choice goalie and losing that guaranteed football. You then have to hope for loss of form, injury, suspension or the keeper moving on. Brighton could be a bad one as he'd be sitting behind a keeper that is young and considered promising. I'd hate to see him rotting on a bench somewhere. Funny thing is, €100k is still extortion. If was playing in League 1 or the Championship you could be talking about anything from £1m to something crazy but it's just not the way things work here.

I don't think League One clubs can charge £1m for too many players these days, but correct me if I'm wrong. €100k is a lot of money for the club, but I'd prefer to see Quigley stay another season. I think he still has room to improve here.

Casey is the big old gent you'll see leaning on the bar of the Montrose any day of the week. He's part of the club furniture, seems to be very clued in about what's going on in the club/league. He was an eL ref long ago.

I'd imagine if such a promising underage international was at a League One club they might get up to a million, Championship clubs can still command ridiculous millions for promising stars.
