TODAY I will be in The Showgrounds. I will shout, I will sing and I will chew my nails down to the quick. At various points in the proceedings, I will see nothing but honest endeavour from one side and underhand villainy from the other, and I will become convinced that the referee is engaged in a conspiracy against the home team. In short, I won't be a sportswriter, I'll be a fan.

Think that is against the rules on here. It is free to register though!

It does not give the journalist's name on the website, suppose you would have to check the paper edition for that.

Got to be Sweeney ..... Good enough piece if really just a precis of his book; Bohs Partisan will like the line about the country been run by the triumvirate of the Catholic Chursh, Fianna Fail and the GAA, and being into domestic football is like being a Sikh or a member of the Socialist party

Sweeney said its the first ever all ticket game in the Showgrounds in his article. Is that true?Definitely not, I can think of at least one more game in the past few years that was all ticket. Maybe he means the first all ticket one to actually sell out?

Definitely not - 94 semi v Limerick was all ticket. Got told there were no tickets left when we arrived but got in OK in the end.

Good piece that. He's right about 'old-fashioned snobbery'.

NOPE. FAI Cup quarter final was all-ticket three years ago for Sligo Rovers v Galway United. Tickets were on sale in Galway prior to the game. GUFC were given 1000 tickets and sold a little under 700.
