The statement reads:

“In response to recent comments about the scheduling of the Shamrock Rovers versus Bohemians Cup semi-final for Sunday afternoon, the Football Association of Ireland wishes to state the following:

1. At the time of the semi-final Cup draw the Association was in discussion about the televising of the Cup semi-finals. At no stage was it confirmed to any of the four clubs that the matches would be televised “’live”.

2. When the televising of the semi-finals became a highlighted package, the scheduling of the Cup semi-finals was reviewed. On security grounds the decision to maintain the Shamrock Rovers versus Bohemians tie on Sunday afternoon was confirmed. The Association has received security information indicating potential trouble at the Cup semi-final between Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians and in conjunction with both clubs and the Gardai is mounting a detailed security plan.

3. There has been ongoing contact between the Association and the clubs on these issues and there are well-established paths for the clubs to make representations to the Association if they feel aggrieved by our decisions.

4. A priority of the FAI has been to promote the Cup semi-finals and with this in mind the Association has been mounting an advertising campaign for the Cup semi-finals through the newspapers, the internet and the local media."

has to be the worst excuse they´ve ever come out with.
As for the security, to the best of my knowledge both clubs had already said they had been advised by the Gardaí that there was no difference between friday and sunday.

Too right.
"A priority of the FAI has been to organise as many drinking sessions and junkets as possible" would be a more apt comment on things.
