I presume thats an experimental team? It looks like a very weak side on paper...

That was Givens intention:
Republic of Ireland Under-21 manager Don Givens has selected a new-look 18-man squad for the friendly International away to Luxembourg, which takes place next Wednesday, October 18th in the Stade Fr Trausch, Mamer, (kick-off 7pm local time).

Givens is building for the future, having seen several of his previous squad become over age after their European Championship qualification campaign ended in September following the 1-0 defeat against Belgium.

He will use the game to assess the players available to him for the next competitive qualifying series, which gets underway in the Autumn of 2007.

The manager has called up a number of players involved with Ireland’s Under-19 team during the 2005/6 season

I would say that was good strategy by Givens

A good result, but Luxembourg are not in the same league as Cyprus, or indeed the same country.
