It's a great honour for our club to have two starting Irish U-21 internationals. Well done to them both.:ball:

well done, and goodbye ....... You know it's going to happen, I honestly can't see either of them staying with UCD next year.

UCD must be adequately compensated for them both as they're with us two years and U-21. As two multiple capped U-21 regulars, what eL club will be able to afford them? Is there signifucant interest from abroad? They might still be here next year if we don't get relegated. I don't begrudge them a move but I'd hate to see them at an eL rival like Drogheda or Bohs.

So how much do you think UCD will get for them, I can't see big money coming your way if they are both out of contract? You might only get the bare amount.

If a player is under the age of 23 and has been with you for two years and is out of contract then an acceptable fee must be paid. If the two clubs can't negotiate one then it goes to arbitration. At the bare minimum they must be worth 50k each and should probably be at least 100k each or if we're really lucky 250k. In an arbitration you could use their U-21 international appearances to fight for a good fee. Shels were made pay around 25k for Alan Cawley.

Big difference between 25k and 250k though, I can't see anybody paying more than 50 or 75k at the most for them. I think that rules of eircom teams apart from Bohs who will have a s*** load of money very soon, plus I cant see them going to a premiership team either so how much would a 1st division team pay for an u21 player?

thegit, if it goes to arbitration and the club won't pay what is ordered, then the player stays with you. In that case they'd be at UCD until they're 23 and can go for free. Personally I don't know what the club would settle for, but anything less than €50k for each of them would be an insult.

Big difference between these guys and Cawley though. I can't see a sum of anywhere near 250k coming up but multiple-capped under 21 internationals must be worth several multiples of the Alan Cawley figure.
The ultimate upshot is that if clubs don't pay the fee, we don't have to let them go.

So how much do the players schoolboy clubs get cause I think they will have put much more into the players than UCD ever did. UCD gave them a chance to perform at this level I dont think they have influenced there coaching that much.
so they stay with the club even though they have no contract with the player and he can then go for free 2 years later. So UCD would rather get no money than let's say 35k for each player? You have to remember that Cawley got what he wanted in the end and I think these two would to.

Shels got screwed. They completed the deal prematurely and had to pay money for Cawley that they never would have paid. €25k for a reserve in the eL is madness. It's not that UCD would want to hold the young lads to ransom. We'll just want to get what we feel is adequate for them. We're in no desperate financial situation and don't need to sell ourselves short. Their schoolboy clubs will be entitled to some percentage. Maybe 10% is divided between all the previous clubs or something?

I have no idea what the club would rather but the option is there if they want it. Would having Quigley/Dicker in the team for two years be worth 35k?

Anyway fair play to the lads, I hope they do well tonight. They could be the deciding factor to keeping UCD in the league, just by being involved at international level. The question is would you swap them to stay in top flight:p ha haaa (joking) :D

He had plenty to do against the mighty Azerbaijan. I think you're forgetting who the manager is...

They've both made great progress since they joined UCD, especially this season(bar occasional blunders creeping into Quigely's game). Well done to them.

Playing in the Premier Division of the EL against full time professional players who regularly play in Europe has made Gary Dicker and Darren Quigley Under 21 internationals... case closed!
Will we recall Neil Gallagher if Darren goes or will we have to sign Pat Jennings junior again?
