From The Star:

Stockport County are eyeing up a swoop for the eircom league's top scorer John O'Flynn.
The Cork City striker scored his eighth league goal of the season against Shelbourne last evening- in front of a scout from the second division outfit.
The county representitive left the Drumcondra venue with a good report for manager Carlton Palmer. O'Flynn would join up with Irishmen Ben Burgess and Jonathan Daly and Jim Goodwin.

Please God let nothing materialise from this.

Stockport ****in County!
If he's gonna leave, he should go somewhere worthwhile.
And we'd need at least €200,000 for him.

Stockport are like the Leicester rejects reserves are something. they´re awful- I mean Carlton Palmer as manger, what has the world come to?! He´d be mad to make a move like that, if he has to leave us, he should be looking for a better club than ****ing stockport ****ing county

Well it's starting to happen. This is supposed to be fairly concrete. How long can we really expect to keep him?

If we don't get through to the FAI Cup Final and we continue to drop points in the League then I reckon he ( and possibly another couple more ) will be on their way.

But along the lines of some of the other threads, I completly agree it is absolutely madness that we sould even consider selling our best players for pathetic sums of money - particularly when they are so early into their contracts.

On a better note, good to hear N Horgan is on the mend and could be back as soon as 2 weeks.

Can we do anything about this .......... sooner rather that later. Suggestions ??

Stockport can go F*** Off and play with themselves. Jofy is staying right where he is. Besides the fact that Stockport are CRAP, Jofy's gonna lead the way to European Cup glory within two seasons(!). Anyway, he's gotta be worth a hell of a lot more than Stockport could even hope to afford (E2,500,000 anyone?).

Tell 'em to go f@ck themselves, why would he want to go to a team stuck at the bottom of the second div, what hope would he have of getting to europe, the Star will write what sells papers,
JO'F has a chance of playing in Europe this year, Lennox has a chance of TV rights worth more than Stockport will pay why would he want to sell him.

Transfer Deadline anyone? Wouldn't any transfer have to wait til January? btw did not Liam Murphy already say this season city would sell players to top division clubs?

I think Stockport paid a club record 450k sterling (E700k+) to Blackburn for Burgess in the summer.

O'Flynn is worth a minimum E250k before any sell on clauses are added. The days of 2nd division players being bought for huge sums is long gone anyway so sell n clauses not worth what they used to be.

Would be interesting to calculate what O'Flynns goals worth in league points & increased attendances for city so far this year.

Time for Mr. Lennox to prove he different from the old Board.

Agreed. Lennox talks a great talk, now let's see him walk the walk. Jofy is not for sale at any price. Could just calculate one anyway, though......just for the laugh.

here, here!!
if players go to clubs abroad it should only be for BIG bucks. imo the club would earn more money by keeping him.

I think we all argee on this one, City needs to charge more for its players. But it is not any good if it is just us who know this, it needs to be conveyed to the club.

Who the hell is Jofy. Does he play for City. Is it a nickname for a player. if so, it is without doubt the WORST nickname ever used.

A few months back didnt Gunther say that he would only sell Flynn for a substantial fee, and not to just any old club. He said a good 1st Div side or a premiership side. So we have nothing to worry about.

I know city have let players go for pennies in the past but JOF IMO is different.

While Delaney looked a class player from the start he was a fullback/midfielder & they don't usually win games for a club.

I know a good few players have come in this season but i think the main difference is O'Flynns goals. There is absolutely no chance we would have won all our home games without John O'Flynn.

I wonder how much longer O'Flynn will want to stay while he chasing hoofs? :(

While all the passion is very comendable guys take a deep breath and let reality set in.
The bottom line is that if we c**k up on Friday night and don't get our act together pretty soon after that in the League, then you're gonna see a much smaller crowd @ the Cross for the remainder of the season ...... and I ain't talking about the supporters. Does the term "Jumping Ship" spring to mind?

It's only then will we see who is loyal to City ... on the pitch. It's a fact of life but playing for crap teams like Stockport, Port Vale and the likes is more of an attraction than LoI teams. Look at Barry-Murphy ( no where to be seen ), Delaney ( started well but dropped down the Leagues ), Gamble ( threatening to break through ... but not yet ).There are a lot more young lads from Cork in England playing at much lower levels than LoI.

The problem is the profile of the game here. I've said it before, the problem is with the people ( I use the word loosely ) in the FAI. They must be the most inept, disfunctional, pathetic bunch of wasters put on this earth ( thinks.... Eircom Park, Siapan fiasco, LoI registration debacle, FAI Cup Semi-Final dates/times ). It's actually frightening that such a small group could mess up so consistently down through the years.

We need someone with a few bob behind them to back City and do a Gottenborg on it - despite the FAI. Anyone got a long lost uncle in the US that wants to do something for their motherland?????? Please!!!!!

By the way Trevor, Counting Crow says he'll see you in the Shed on Friday night... 7.30!

The eL have some sorted of exemption from the FIFA transfer windows. However Stockport haven't. The soonest the could do anything about it would be January.

As for not selling him for any price... with every club, if the price is right he will go. We just have to hope that if that time ever came the price would be more than pitance.

Right. I don´t think any of us would begrudge O´Flynn the chance to play at the higher levels which he is talented enough to do, but to flog him off to bloody stockport for nothing is not on. I know we all think he´s worth a lot of money (he would be if he was at a lower level english club) but the market (i.e. english clubs p!ssing all over this country) dictates otherwise. HOWEVER, market or no market he´s worth a lot more than €50,000!

Of course we wouldn't. But, what about alittle ambition? Couldn't City become that bigger club that we'd consider selling him to? It might take a fair bit of money, but not alot of ambition and foresight among the right people.

I don´t think we can aspire to that level of ambition quite yet. Unfortunately, realism is raising it´s ugly head again  :(

Of course we can, why shouldn't we? After all, we're not THAT small a club if you measure our attendances against alot of so-called better clubs in alot of so-called better leagues around Europe. Also, there's realism and there's not having the will to give a **** regardless, which I think is inexcuseable.

Ok, maybe i didn´t put that as well as I could. I didn´t mean we shouldn´t have the ambition, we should, i do, and I know alot of others do. But we have to accept too, that things being as they are, John O´Flynn will go back to england at some stage, and it´s not in our power to offer him the chances he´ll get there. I wish it was different, but it´s not.
