View Full Version : George O'Callaghan tra la la la la
Some very positive comments from Georgie in tonights echo. Apparently hes turned down a move to Carlisle. He says hes commited to city and they are still the only club he wants to play for, he also says he is grateful to City for rescuing his career.
He said that Citys crowds are much better than those in the lower English divisions and that the standard is on a par with, if not better than, the english 2nd division.
One thing thats not so positive is that City say they wont leave him go for less than E50,000. Surely we should look for more than that?

Exactly. Until eircom League clubs start charging the market value, we'll never get anywhere. You see gowls in the lower English leagues getting transferred for 5/6/700,000 sterling. O'Flynn is worth at least that. And O'Callaghan somewhere near.
Little known fact: Arsenal offered Port Vale £1,000,000 for Georgie a few years back. Port Vale declined because they said they'd get more later on.

Why is this so unbelieveably low. To be honest, you'd swear City didn't value him very much, shocking. This has to be sorted out now, one visit from across the water and our chances at competing (to win) in our own league could go out the window, all for a packet of magic beans, it is fcukin' mad. Something has to be done to change our way of thinkin'.

50,000 big 1's. If George is worth a penny (cent anyone?), he's worth a bare minimum of ten, yes TEN, times that. Clubs here should cop on in that respect and stop letting themselves be raped by cross channel clubs.
Murphy Out Now!!!
I get the impression from Georgie he has done the english thing & be happy to make a career in the eL now - maybe an offer from a top club might change his mind.
I suppose this thing about "not standing in a players way" is ok from part-time players but if a club is paying a player fulltime wages a player shold only be sold if its in the clubs interest.
City should make in the region of 1/2 the suggested E50k on friday nights cup semi.

Be very surprised if City only pulled in E25000 for the Derry game, Pete. After all, adult tickets are E10 each and a crowd of somewhere in the region of 8- 10,000 can be expected. Point is though, George is still worth far more than E50000. Can't see him going cross channel a 2nd time, though.

He said he would like another crack at across the water, but no to Carlisle or anything ridiculous like that.
Lets hope he sees out his contract at least anyway and helps us win a thing or two.

Lets say 2000 kids * E4 = 8k
6000 * E10 = 60k
total receipts 68k & AFAIK its 205 to the FAI & 40% for each team.
40% of 68k = E27,200
I know it costs money to run the game (ref, stewards etc...) but profits on programmes, half time draw, lotto etc... should cover them.
