solid enough first ten mins, tackles flying in although we mightn't be winning them they'll still rattle the czechs. McShane has had a good start, very tough job marking Jan Koller. Carsley playing solid as well, flying in winning loads of tackles

cechs after making an unbelievable save from douglas. good start

Carlsley is playing VERY well. He has a point to prove and he is proving it. He should have been there against Cyprus.

McShane doing well but it will be a long night.

WHY IS KILBANE ON THE PITCH!! ARRRGGHGGGHGGG!

Otherwise, a good start but a long way to go.

GUISAUltra

yeah its gonna be a big night for everyone but ecspecially carsley mcshane and douglas. its like carsleys making his debut again the way hes playing

O'Shea with a header just over really lifts the crowd. Czechs back down the field Koller pulls one wide. Determined start by Ireland. Czechs dangerous on counter.

where the hell was this believe and work ethic in nicosia last week. how can ireland always perform against big clubs and yet struggle against the minnows.

Fergie's Son
11/10/2006, 6:57 PM
They did more than struggle, they lost.

Passion and some skill from Ireland at the moment but we need to be careful on the break.

great ball in again from reid, just nobody could connect. i hate to sound optomistic but its not looking too bad. but with rosicky, baros, koller and kovac you'd always fancy them to nick one

onceahoop

Can we keepthis pace up. They're movng all over the place playing quick ball

GUISAUltra
11/10/2006, 7:03 PM
it'll be tight towards the edge of the game cos we are going to be seriously tired with ten minutes to go. i think we definitely need to get one fairly soon cos i dont think we can last this pace for the 90 but i hope i'm wrong

Germany have taken the lead against Slovakia, Podolski on 13 mins

onceahoop
11/10/2006, 7:08 PM
Yeah a goal will make them think. They'l have to consolidate in case we nick a second

we're holding onto the ball very well, something that looked beyond us in cyprus.

great tackle by mcshane on koller again

onceahoop

Duff across the goal after we could have had a peno. Crowd really up for it. McShane man of the match so far. Duff not doing enough for me

h-t 0-0

CollegeTillIDie

Duff just missed but we should have been awarded a penalty for a foul on Andy Reid inside the box. So much better than Cyprus it's unreal.

Henderson is playing very Well; Kelly and McShane are playing very well
Andy Reid is doing well. Keane and Duff are more interested than they were on Saturday. As regards Kilbane , however useful at international level he may be and that is open to debate, he is way better on the left flank than in the centre.

On the basis of the first 45 minutes maybe we shouldn't sack Stevo after all. Just a few of the so-called big time charlies ..... :D

sounds like Ireland are playing very well, organised and should be ahead at HT.

Agree on all this. do we have a 2nd CB now??

Duff at great risk when McGeady is back. To be fair dont knwo why we dont stick KK on right if he has to play?

Only contender for McShane is Carsley, dont laugh but is he a captain????

Shows how bad Andy O'Brien was on Saturday. He was awful and it unsettled the defence

GUISAUltra
11/10/2006, 7:23 PM
theres nothing to laugh about the way carsley is playing here. if he can keep this up and have a couple more games like this he'd seriously need to be considered as captain. since keano left we've not had a captain who can inspire by winning tackles and controlling the ball. sounds weird but the way he is playing he would have to be a serious contender for captain

GUISAUltra

ref is having a nightmare, anyone think that reid should have a penalty

Very true, hasn't been decent leadership in a long time.

Germany 3 up now.

Slovak's seem to be heading to their second defeat of the campaign. Which if the Irish continue in their present vein for the second half can only be good news for us.

yeah it seemed he gave the 'advantage' signal to play on after reid was fouled but duff shot wide. should of blown for the pen. i think.

Lee Carsley is showing up , the folly of not calling him up for the Cyprus game. Yes if he intends playing international football, beyond these few games to dig Stan out of a hole, make him captain. As has been said before he is the nearest thing to a Roy Keane-like figure available at the moment.
Robbie Keane couldn't inspire you to have a slash :D

CollegeTillIDie
11/10/2006, 7:34 PM
In about 5 years , assuming he isn't crippled by injuries, Paul McShane will be a superb captain.

onceahoop

Fergie's Son
11/10/2006, 7:35 PM
Very nervous that they could nick one but so far so good. Listening to it on the radio and getting emails from Lansdowne. Carlsley and McShane doing very well. Hard to believe he is only 20 playing against the man-mountain that is Koller.

By this time on Saturday night we had already conceded three goals. So far we have yet to concede one , that is a VAST IMPROVEMENT !

Stephen Kelly is doing well, nice to have a left back instead of a stocking.....considering he is normally a right-back, he seems to be the heir apparent to the Denis Irwin role.

On 51 minutes Duff just wide from poor headed clearance at an Irish corner-kick. The newbies are all doing well, as is Carsley.
