(Article in todays Irish Times Business section - i cannot find link)

After examining state support to the Horse & Dog racing Industries the ESRI has questioned the support currently given. I can't remeber the exact figures but previously the state funding was paid by betting taxes. Now that betting taxes reduced significantly theres something like 20m difference every year. Support for the racing industries now accounts for 27% of the Dept Arts, Tourism & Sport budget.

There was an article in STIG about this a few months ago.

Imagine if the eL had a €38 handout (http://bohsnews.crispynews.com/article/show/23192) for every punter attending a match.
In time, we might win an international!
