Keane is clearly a poor captain and i believe their should be a new captain, someone who tries and cares about ireland. I think duffer should be the new captain, he may not give players a b*llocking but he will lead by example, and if given the armband i think he would become the player he once was again.

Richard Dunne is the only leader in that team.

Given or DunneAgreed. At least they appear to give a fcuk about the green jersey unlike Keane who hasnt cared since 2002. No wonder Davids floored him.
And dont give me that top scorer ******. Look who's record he beat FFS.

Why does Keane always appear to play well near the end of the football season and never in between? He is no leader and should not be captain.Give it to Dunne. At least he is proud to wear the shirt.

Shay Given, only man for the job.

Given. Best Ireland player by a country mile. Note I didn't say best player. I only care about their performances for us and it's no question when it comes to playing for us he leads the way in passion, commitment and courage.

I've no doubt that Keane does care. However, Dunne is the logical choice for captaincy because the type of game he plays depends on solidity and strength. Dunne will have a great game 9 times out of 10.
Keane's game requires creativity and originality, and that doesn't happen every time you step on a football pitch. Just look at Rooney at the moment!
I reckon Dunne should be captain, because Keane will naturally have more 'off' games than Dunne will ... and you want your captain focused and on the ball at all times.

Given. Has to be.
Generally don't agree with goalkeepers being captains. Would agree with making Richard Dunne the new captain. He is captain at his club and knows what the job entails.

I think keane should be given time....
Time for everything ran out on Saturday night.
...time for rebuilding
...time for staunton
...time for the fai
...time to qualify
...time for keane as captain
...time for the complacency, mediocrity and getting the criac back.

Not sure if Dunne is up to it even though he is his club captain. Never saw O Brian nor O shea get a bollicking on the field after any mistake either goals misplaced passes or failure to close down and there were countless examples.

Shay Given without a doubt. I doubt the defence would have looked so shaky with Given behind them.

I think we're starting to appreciate what Kenny Cunningham brought to the team, more than just being the captain, he organised the defence superbly, made O'Brien look international class (when now he clearly isn't). The loss of his leadership at the back, along with that of Keane, Quinn, etc is not being replaced by the new players coming in. Which only makes the absence of players who do organise their team - McCarthy and Carsley - all the more baffling.

Keane is obviously not captain material. Shay Given has got to be the man for the job.
