Doyle: S

Might as well get rid of the dead wood now-any REALLY build for the future instead of pretenting to with mugs like Kilbane, Honey Monster, Morrison etc in the team. Put out that attacking formation and just go for absolute broke.

ps this is a frustration post and i will probably regret making it

Dunne is no mug, whatever about today.

Who is the Duff fella?

FootballsKing
07/10/2006, 6:56 PM
Dunne is a mug, he's an oaf who occassionally looks good, when covering up for his own mistakes, as I always say. Irelands REAL future does not lie with people like this.

Alan Quinn and Andy Reid will both start in midfield ;)

Would really love to see a minor cull of players after this performance. There's no need for Kilbane to play again, we all no how limited he is. Morrison likewise. Carsley, McCarthy and Long to play on Wednesday night.

Alan Quinn and Andy Reid will both start in midfield ;)

Reid has played for Charlton in recent weeks. Why does Staunton not see him as fit enough for at least a place on the bench in Cyprus?

(btw no single player would have made a difference today)

it is goign to get worst on wednesday. we've no central midfield, and with dunne suspended we've no central defence.
it'll be o'brien and O'shea, and we're fcuked. there's no 2 ways about it

Can it really get worse? (Besides losing to San Marino)

Lets face it. The only changes will be St Ledger in for Dunne, Doyle back if he's recovered and maybe Andy Reid in midfield. Stan is clueless. He will think that he has a point to prove picking a similar lineup.

Heary should be considered.
Theres no way a back four with Heary in it would go 90 mins defending like that !!!

Long should get at least a place in the squad as Clinton is a tool. Doyle to start with Robbie up front and if he's not fit then go 4-5-1. Jayo has not had a great season so far and does not deserve another call up on current form.

He'll probably stick O'Shea in at the back for Dunne?

Jaysus get you money on the Czechs now...thats a banker!

Just heard on the radio that he has called up Stephen Kelly (a full back) to cover for Richard Dunne (centre-half!!!!!)....bloody hell Paddy McCarthy didn't sleep with Staunton's missus did he????

Drop the extire squad and send out an entire EL selection.
I think they would do better than the existing squad.

Th EL players would give 100%.

Stephen Kelly was called up to replace Liam Miller who withdrew through injury!!!!

There should be a cull on Wednesday. And had Dunne not been suspended O'Brien would've got the chop, and rightly so. He still might. Hard to say who'll start. Kelly has played on both full back positions for spurs so he may start at left full. He may also pack the middle and opt for the lone forward. But Doyle would be more suited to that and he's not going to drop Keane. God only knows what he'll opt for. I can't believe he played 2 out and out wingers with such a soft midfield. I really can't.

We're going to have to stop trying to work out things. We can only do that when logic is being applied. We know Staunton is not applying logic.

Why do poeple want Stephen Ireland to start. He is rubbish against Cyprus from start to finish. Just because he scored a goal doesnt cover up those facts.

--------Kenny-------
Finnan--O' Brien--O' Shea--Kilbane
Duff---Douglas--Quinn--McGeady
-----------Reid----------------
-----------Doyle--------------

Thats the team I would play although there is no wat Stan will. As I keep saying, Douglas has got to play!!

I think it's great that Kilbane and O'Shea will not be in midfield that will definitely be an improvement but of course our back line looks a pile of sh*te - think kilbane might ( I say might ) be ok but o'shea worries me deeply.

I know I will be called every stupid eejit under the sun here but I think we might scramble a win on wednesday

For the first time in my life I can't even be bothered to think about who to start.

So few deserve to play and some that do aren't even in the squad.

What would be better?

Squeezing out a 0-0 draw and Staunton stays in the job or a thumping of say 4-0 and Staunton goes?

09/10/2006, 2:11 PM
even though I feel sick, humiliated, hurt, angry, upset and violated by saturdays game - I cannot bring my myself to want Ireland to lose. I know there is sense in saying if we lose we might get rid of him.

eirebhoy
09/10/2006, 2:15 PM
I'll be cheering on Ireland as much as any other game but put it this way, there'll be plenty of consolation in defeat. Stutts mentioned that he wasn't as disappointed after Saturday's defeat as he has been on many occasions and I feel the same. I wasn't dreading coming on here on Sunday afternoon.

I think the FAI would actually be better off financially if they pay Stan off if we lose on Wednesday as a new manager will mean a lot more people willing to support the team in Croker.

Stuttgart88
09/10/2006, 2:16 PM
I'll accept pretty much whatever happens of Wednesday.

I said it on another thread but I'm far more upbeat this morning than when, for example, we drew 1-1 in Skopje. I'm the eternal optimist & I can see a sceario where we gain from this.

At least this catastrophe happened early on.

now that keane is gone you see how much off a loss he is!

shakermaker1982
09/10/2006, 2:24 PM
As long as the following don't start I'm content:

Kenny
O'Brien
O'Shea
Kilbane

dropping the following lads to prove a point that you don't take the green shirt for granted would also be a risky but brave move:

Keane
Finnan
S Ireland
Clinton

2 guys I'd keep would be:

McGeady
Duff

Dunne is suspended. Basically we don't have a team left and Staunton is too stubborn to call up Carsley and McCarthy.

Can't think where I read it (probably the Indo) but rumour has it that the 4 games in Croke Park will all be sold together as the one package. So if you want to see Germany and Wales you'll have to see (or at least buy tickets for Slovakia and Cyprus.
I'd say it's more likely that the games will be sold as Wales + Slovakia and Germany + Cyprus

I see that there is hope that it's a no lose game.
Assuming that is, that Stan is replaced and not rementored.

There were some things that Kerr would not have done in that game but I wonder if he addressed a similar Cyprus post match performance debriefing with the team with a similar intensity that Stan has done.
After the first set of results in September we had no chance of qualifying anyway. How did we become 4th seeds?.
Now there's a rather tough combination of circumstances which includes the Czechs. I'm curious to see if there's any evidence of the effect of Stan's mettle on the team.

Decent team. Both central midfielders can tackle while Reid is one of our best passers. With Reid usually playing as a left winger I think most people would put him down as an attacking player but I think he has the sense to know when to stay back or go forward. He's an intelligient player and a much better option than Kilbane. Douglas will run himself down to the ground.

Oh please, for the love of God, stop going on about Connolly!!!!!
Not going to happen, sorry. Come on, hes no worse than Morrison or Lee. Yes, he got sent off against Belgium, 9years ago. Richard Dunne got sent off 2 days ago as well. I seem to recall Drogba getting sent off in the Champions League against Barcelona 2 years ago as well. Yes, he missed a penalty, but who the **** hasn't? Henry, Pele, Shevchenko, DROGBA, Maradona, have all missed penalties, they just werent unfortunate enough to have missed at the time he did. Seems to be hes just unlucky. The rest of the time, he really has not been too bad

Although things are going so bad now that I probably would welcome Breen back with open arms!!!
Even if they weren't going bad, Breen would be equal or better to all of the defense we have right now (besides maybe Finnan, probably equal to a fully fit Harte)

Over the post
09/10/2006, 5:09 PM
I reckon Killer will be moved to left back, JohnO into centre back, two from Reid, Ireland and Quinn in centre mid and Doyle in for Morrison if fit. There's not much else than can realistically be done. I don't reckon throwing lads like McShane, StLedger or Kelly into the midst of a team in crisis facing strong opposition will do them or the team any good.

The Czech game must be seen as a damage limitation exercise and a chance for some of the underperformers (i.e. everyone) to claw back some respect in the eyes of the fans.

Would be very interested to see a full EL selection taking on the Czechs. And before anyone starts I'm not a regular EL fan I'm just making a point that passion and committment go a long way in compensating for other shortfalls. I don't think an EL 11 would have even lost in Cyprus.

That aside I think it was nuts that no-one was hauled off at half time last Saturday. O'Shea, Kilbane and Clinton would have been subbed if I were in charge, but sure ah well, who am I? I mean its not like I have any experience is it....;)

Maybe using Quinn if Ireland isn't up to it.
S**t we're gonna be trashed, how did it get this bad Dunne really should have been aware of what he was up to in Cyprus.
