If he cares about his country then he should resign now.

He should find a safehouse for a while - people will be looking to speak to him

I hope they get an interview with Stan!

I'm annoyed it wasn't on RTE to get the views of Giles,Dunphy and Brady!

the argument about being good is besides the point, the managers job is to organise the team, to get them playing as a unit, to make them tough to score against and threatening going forward. has staunton done that?

otto rehagel did that with a very average greek team to win euro 2004

Cyprus are ranked 109th in the World & 10th worst in Europe. Thankfully we have San Marino in our group as might get no points.

Shocking organisation (managers fault) & some terrible individual performances (not necessarily the managers fault).

Staunton as predicted is out of his depth. International football not the place to learn your trade. Getting suspended in germany only made it worse as had to insert assistant with zero management experience.

there's been organised and then there's just been inept at doing what you should be good at..

the players have a lot to answer for in my book. schoolboy errors for the most part= a lot of these players hav had 100s of games to know how to behave in games and they looked like they never met each other until 5 mins before the game

I hear McGeady won MOTM on the TV? Why do they not just say "look lads we've been ****e the wee lad from Cyprus is MOTM!"?? I mean FFS for anyone to get MOTM when we lose 5 is embarassing.

When your defence and centre midfield is as poor as what we have its impossible to be a decent team even if you had Cryuff and Platini on the wings and Pele and Maradona up front.

Not 100% correct, he was Irelands man of the match. TV3 were running a competition for anyone who agreed with Kerr choice for Irelands MOM.

And Kerr prefaced by saying the real MOTM was obviously a cypriot. gave it to McGeady for workrate, himself and Duff the only workers...

They should have called it Irelands best player. MOTM implies the match i.e. all players.

Kerr was desparate to find someone who did ok. Wasn't particularily impressed by McGeady but then hard for newbie to play well in that sh!te & the bar was set very low.

Cyprus were 15/2 before todays game. I hope had some money on...

It is not often that a catch-phrase becomes superceded in an instant, to 'have a Macedonia' has now been replaced with to 'have a Cyprus'.

Our whole psychology has changed irrevocably today. It's like the first time you are kicked in the nuts that you truely understand pain and what you thought was pain before wasn't anything. A generation has lost it's innoccence today.

This could spark an economic downturn, I kid you not.

For the next 10 years we will be reminded that we lost 5-2 to a team of players not one of which could be named by a football expert on Mastermind.

And I'll never be able to go there on vacation again.

Why cant Matt "Lets look at the positives" Holland, just admit we were ****ing ****?

Staunton should count his lucky stars this game was not on RTE. Dunphy would have had a field day.

I'm lost and in despair :(

I've just started drinking, but i don't think its going to help.

Not one for knee-jerk reactions & and have been one of those who was willing to give Staunton a chance, but lets face it it's not working and its not likely to get any better under Staunton's leadership.

I've Been following Ireland for 24 years and this is the lowest point.

Rather than let it drag on for the whole campaign, i think the FAI need to move swiftly to terminate Staunton's contract and give a new manager the rest of the Euro campaign to re build.

It cannot be allowed to drag on past christmas.

Lets look at the positives the only positive I can come up with is I am very drunk and I will wake up tomorrow thinking this was all a nightmare. Then reality will set in which could lead to a never ending circle of drinking to forget. better that than having to remember that performance a horror show!

If you have an ounce of decency in your body Staunton, RESIGN NOW.
This is utterly disgraceful and you are responsible.

Get out now. Delaney out as well. Worst Irish Defeat that I can remember. Ever.

i actually feel a bit sorry for stan. he is completely clueless, cannot string 2 words together, should NEVER have been appointed and is surrounded by idiot staff.

remember our team tonight was decimated by injuries but the starting 11 have a lot to answer for. I missed the game as i am currently in a world top 20 FIFA country where the tools dont even watch football, but i am presuming that it was a soulless performance.

to lose to cyprus is one thing but 2-5??? i mean just how-ive read numerous reports and i still cant understand it.

i think that is actually the worst thing to come out of the night, if they cant be man enough to do an interview are they man enough to represent the country.

if results were good they would be rushing out of the dressing room to do interviews

I think this is lowest we've sunk in 30 years...
I don't think Staunton is the person to get us out of it

Teams can be turned around but we need the right manager who has the respect of the players.. We beat Scotland easily at a low point 3.5 years and now thwey look a decent well organised side...
