Says it all really. We have entered the darkest period for Irisn international football since the sixties. The soundbites coming from Stan have all been the same: building for the future; ect ect

No other manager had this luxury why should Stan?

Thats it for me... Staunton out now.......... J***s C****t! thats the worst thing i have ever heard come out of a "manager's" (if you can call him that) mouth!

Truely bizarre stuff from Staunton. Slovakia just beat them 6-1. Slovakia beaten 3-0 at home by the Czechs. But a draw for us won't be a disaster! Will hold off until tomorrow.

To be fair to Staunton, he meant that it is not a disaster for Cyprus.

even if he was asked a question about a draw, he should have said, "we're not going to even think about that, because we are going for the win"

i mean, who on here would consider anything but a win against cyprus not to be a disaster?

He can't be talking to Dunne who believes we need all six points from these two games.

Surely Delenayy should be implicated as much as Staunton. I mean its not Stauntons fault he has no managerial experience. The fact is he could go on to become a great manager but he has been a manager for less than ten games. New managers need more time than that , thats why new managers usually start in club football not international football . So I feel that Delaney fecked up big time on this one and should carry the can for it.

It funny how things can change over 90 minutes. Before the game the suggestion that a draw would not be a disaster seemed outrageous. But then we lose 5-2 and a draw seems like a very good result indeed :)

5-2 is a disaster though :)

You know words cannot express my shame, no pride, no balls and no passion. Employ an inexperienced manager as the national manager and you get this. The sad thing is I can see Stan looking on the bright side of the result (and I wish I was joking)

i feel truly sorry for the fans that flew out. as pi$$ed off as i was paying my $22 bar tab (4 pints of stout, few cokes and basket of chips for the kids - stopped drinking in the 60th minute as i realized it was clearly not going to be an all - dayer). pure and utter shiite. its acceptable for stan to have a 4 year plan - its not acceptable for irish fans to have to put up with it for 4 years. LEAVE NOW STAN. THIS IS AN ALLTIME LOW. Good luck to John Delaney filling croker.

No, a draw would have been an awful result, and probably would have me calling for Stauton's head.

The original Thread was posted before the game ever took place. A friend asked me last night how he thought we would do. He was amazed when I told him we wold lose 3-2 or 4-2. He must have known we would concede at least 5 agains the mighty Cypriot team.
