If anyone sees him in the stands, get your mates and go over and gang up on him and give him an Indian rope burn until he promises to start calling up the best players at his disposal.
Well why not? If he's not gonna take the campaign seriously and be a stubborn pleb, we might as well all act like spoiled kids....

Carsley excepted, who would you have called up?

Stephen McPhail, Alan Mahon, Mark Kennedy, Stephen Kelly, Billy Clarke, Michael Doyle, Paddy McCarthy, Glen Whelan.
Although, of these I reckon only McPhail, McCarthy, Doyle and possilbly Mahon would get into the match day 16.

Who would these guys be there instead of then

Alan Mahon
I agree. UCD's defence has been pretty tight this season, he'd have been better than Stephen Carr and fitter.;)

McPhail, McCarthy and Matt Holland offered his services if we were stuck. I know he said he’s looking to the future but I still think you should always play the best players at your disposal. We were given the runaround last year by Cyprus in midfield and we had a much more experienced team then, than we will have on Saturday.
I think if we played our best team every time we could actually have a chance of getting out of the group. If he starts experimenting in competitive games we’ll be 5th seeds for the WC qualifiers and we might not qualify for anything ever again.

Wrong guy, I meant Burnley's Alan Mahon, scored a cracking goal at the weekend.
I don't really follow the eL much

And which of these is better than who he did call up? Can't the manager make value judgments? My guess is that NONE of the above would make the match day 16, maybe McPhail. Can you really argue Kelly over Foley?
If he called up McPhail would he have to send him home again when Reid and Quinn are available again next week? Personal I wouldn't let this be a factor though. I do think that Michael Doyle & Glenn Whelan may be worth a look but a lot of what people have been suggesting smacks of "there's a half-decent Irish bloke in the Championship, why isn't he called up?"
Like Carsley, wasn't Matty Holland the most vilified Irish midfielder of recent times? Give a Miller or Douglas a chance, fire them up and tell them this is their big chance. Let their hunger to prove themselves be the incentive. I think I said this yesterday on another thread, and Staunton seems to agree. I have to be consistent so I can't turn around and knock him for concurring.
Owls Fan got it right I think. This squad is only attracting so much debate because it used to pick itself until retirements & injuries and general mediocrity threw the whole thing up in the air.

That wasn't sarcasm. Humour, yes, but not sarcasm.

Glen Whelan who was out with a virus at the weekend so not sure he was available anyway.
The rest are much of a muchness with what we have.

Building for the future? The future will be players playing with mid level premiership and championship teams. Errr exactly like we have now Stan. But would only dispute not bringing in Carsley for these 2 matches.

The only guy on that list that should be in the squad (and probably in the starting XI) is McPhail imho, possibly McCarthy as backup...Kennedy, Mahon, Whelan, Doyle don't think any of them are up to it...Clarke is deffo one for the future but I think its way too soon to be calling him up to the senior panel. Also, Kelly is injured isn't he???
Strange he called up Tabb and not Doyle when Doyle is consistently ahead of Tabb for Coventry (and has been very good for them the past 2 years)

Just back from an injury at the weekend. I think the players I picked would give us a stronger squad than the one heading over to Cyprus, but I don't think many of them would get into the starting XI

 oh shut up and stop believing what you read in the papers.... I'm sick and tired of what I read in the papers about the Irish team and the amount of idiots who have started falling for the whole lot of it...
there is no way this team will ever be able to perform with the abuse they get...
It all goes back to Saipan and Roy keane and Dunphy the scumbags.

if the cyprus result/match doesnt go our way and will lose poorly to the czechs a cleansing needs to be called for with the removal of stan and delaney to stop the destruction of irish football. either that or we stop our kids from playing with xboxes and start looking towards WC 2026 which will take place on the moon and which we will win.

No, it all goes back to the likes of Carr deciding he's 'retiring' only to reappear when stan got the job.
Here is his quote at the time "I'll be 34 the next time the World Cup comes around and at that stage of my career I wouldn't feel as though I could do myself or Ireland justice in the competition should we get through."
So what's changed Stephen ?
Too many of these players think they are bigger than the team, and also, too many of them think they have more ability than they actually do. Get back to what Ireland achieved success with, players giving their all for the team.
