From what I can ascertain from the last 4 matches + the recent squad
1.) Robbie Keane
2.) Kevin Doyle (perhaps flip-flopped with Keane?)
3.) Stephen Elliott (came on during the Germany game before Morrison)
4.) Clinton Morrison (been in every squad--unless he was hurt for Germany??)
5.) Jason Byrne (actually got on the pitch)
6.) Alan Lee (just got his first call, could very well play)
7.) Terry Dixon (Been in all squads but two, but never played)
8.) Daryl Murphy (Got a late call into the last squad, but never got on)
9.) David Connolly (never been in squad, though Staunton has thought about it (http://archives.tcm.ie/irishexaminer/2006/09/08/story10383.asp))
These are the 9 who I know are in contention for a spot, 8 of them have been called up (Connolly, as you see, has been considered ;)) anyone I missed, I'm sorry

the last 5 strikers listed there with the possible exception of Dixon will never play a big role for Ireland, Staunotn is wasting time with the likes of Jason Byrne, and seening as these squad members are unlikely ever to play he should give the places yo younger talent like billy clarke, long and stokes. can you really imagine alan lee scoring against quality international opposition??? didnt think so

If we only played players that were truly international class then we would struggle to make a 5 a side team out of them

David Connolly should be in any squad at the expense of Jason Byrne. Purely on the basis of the goals he has scored at domestic level and the experience he possesses at international level.
