Its been confirmed now that Irelands B team will take on Scotlands B team on the 14th on November in Dalymount Park.
So do you's think that there will be many eircom league players in the squad? and if so, which players?
The likes of Gamble, Stuey Byrne, O'Neill, Bradley and O'Donovan should definitely be called up.

As far as I know it will be basically an eircom League select.
More to the point, will many eL fans be in attendance?

According to our esteemed senior manager Mr.Staunton, Ward and the Derry City lad with the 21s whose name presently and inexplicably escapes me will probably be included and "a few more" player from our league are being looked at. I'm starting to think that there won't be as big an eircom League presence as I'd like...

If memory serves, he said that the squad would be 18 or so guys too old for the U21s but not in the seniors, and a few of the senior squad thrown in (presumably the likes of Alan O'Brien, St Leger...).

I don't think Stephen Kenny would be happy with one of his players playing yet another game. I assume Kevin Deery is the lad in question.

That would be him.
Nobody over the age of 25 should be picked IMO, which would rule out a lot of the el players.

Especially 4 days before the Cork game on the last day of the season. We have cover for him anyway, good cover.
Would say that there will be a mixture of players from the eircom and england with hopefully a eircom league majority would be a travesty otherwise IMO.

Anyone really think there'll be an EL majority?? I think that's crazy talk to be honest. 5 max if we're lucky. Stan hasn't got the desire to bring in those players. It'll be Joe Soap from a League One side ahead of any el players. Maybe Wes will get a look in

It's a pity Vinnie Arkins hamstring fell off him. He'd be worth a look.
I always enjoyed b internationals, good to see players you've always thought good enough representing their country and being looked at closely by the management.
It's only a cynical ploy by Stan from de Town and his mate Pat Devlin to see which eL players are worth shipping off to England with a nice fat agent's fee.

Stan will only pick eL players that Don Givens or pat Devlin are advising.

Timing shows it's not about the eL. Being cynical, may even be timed so that eL clubs won't release players so that the FAI and Team Management can say they tried but clubs weren't interested so that they can go and pick no marks from lower english leagues.

Seán Cooney will be captain no doubt.
I need a sit down....!!!!!  Good God man, that man's name and International do not deserve to share the same thread

I'd say they never even thought of the LOI and just assumed it was somewhere in the middle of 'their' season

I'd say you're bang on the money there Dodge. It was just convinient to have it the day before the San Marino game.
I don't know what eL players would deserve a B cap until i see the type of UK based players that would be picked. Given the player resources available i would think have to be picking League One & lower SPL types...

Suggested Squad
GK:Doyle (Birmingham), B. Ryan (St. Pats), Stack (Reading)
DF: Geary (Sheff United), McCarthy (Leicester City), Clarke (Sunderland) Foley (Luton), St.Ledger (Preston), McShane (West Brom), Thompson (N. Forest)
MF: O'Donovan (Cork), Gamble (Cork), Hoolahan (???), Deery (Derry), Potter (Wolves), Whelan (Sheff Wed), Stephen Hunt (Reading), McPhail (Cardiff), Flood (Cardiff), Thornton (Doncaster)
FW: Mark Yeates (Spurs), J. Byrne (Shels), Ward (Bohs), Daryl Murphy (Sunderland)
Would put Shane Supple in before Stack meself and maybe Shane Long from Reading, John Paul Kelly from Bohs.

B. Ryan (St. Pats), )
not a chance, there are way better keepers in the league than him.
John Paul Kelly of Bohs should be in it though.

No there's not way better keepers than Ryan, and Kelly is rubbish. So he can do a stepover, whoop-de-fookin-woo. Too small and totally ineffectual in any game I've seen. Stands out for a poor Bohs side but thats not hard. If its a development side, fair enough but if its a true B team, Kelly wouldn't get near it.

I think he's easily the best keeper in the league.

Grand, you've seen him more than I have. I've seen him 5 times and he's been terrible every time.

So does anyone think there are any non-eL players there that could/should be replace with an eL player, to strengthen the position obviously.

I think Quigley should be there instead of Ryan. Not saying he's better than Ryan but he has bigger future prospects. Ryan will never figure for Ireland in the future. Quigley has a small possibility.
Would have Barry Molloy in there and Barry Murphy the Rovers Keeper. Molloy has been far and wide the best midfielder in the league this season and based on any time i've seen Murphy (who i think is the LOI's best keeper) he has been brilliant. Last nite was another great performance from him!!
Is Ciaran Martyn from Northern Ireland?
Schumi
02/10/2006, 5:15 PM
He's from Sligo iirc.
He should be in the squad then. Then again maybe the management think he'd be a bit too tired to play what with all of Derry's games recently.

and what about a certain M.Devine?

Devine is good, but there needs to be a younger EL keeper in the squad.

Alledgedly Givens recommended Cooney to Gareth Farrelly, and has since revealed that he thought the guy was rubbish before doing so.
Is this true ??
Gary Dicker of UCD should be given a chance as well

Could have easily had a hattrick tonight. He hit a shot first time on the turn which the keeper palmed onto the bar when he had plenty of space to take it round him for his third.
