Yeah, that's the argument - but surely by being ahead of the play to begin with he gains the advantage of being ahead of the defenders.
Hypothetically let's consider someone playing up front alongside Thierry Henry (or some other very fast player). Henry is onside but his pace takes him clear of everyone, except his teammate. If his teammate had been onside, then the defenders would have arrived in the box at the same time to receive a pass, but because he begins from an offside position he gets there unmarked - is this not gaining an unfair advantage and therefore should be offside?
Not really, his team then have one less defender or outlet/man back.
It's all legal.

Don't really get this comment - you're saying there's no advantage in starting your run ahead of the defenders so you can keep up with your teammate because it'll leave you short at the back?

It was a serious question, I don't understand your response to the question I asked about a player gaining an advantage by being offside.

Have you seen our injury list?
A 16 yr old came on for us in the second half!
Well whoop-de-doo. We regularly have 16 and 17 year olds playing for us this season. A 16 year old defender scored on his debut as a sub for us against Shels. FACT :D
I love the way it was 'so unproffessional' of the Blues players to stop when they saw the flag. Most of the Bohs players stopped too. Did you see the look of shock on their faces when the goal was given? So don't berrate the Waterford players for being unproffessional when it's the officials who don't know the rules of the game. I have no gripe against Bohs - they've had 2 of the worst decisions I've ever seen given against them in recent months.
Anyway, playing to the whistle is easier said than done. It's a natural reaction to take notice when the referee's hindrance is waving a flag, or if there are two balls on the pitch, or if a meteorite hits the pitch.
I know it was a fabrication (and a different sport), but technically, the point should have been allowed in the Michael Collins film when the tanks rolled onto Croke Park and started shooting. The ref never blew his whistle.

Who thinks the goal should not have been given so?

I think it was a goal alright , would anyone say McKeon added to the confusion by raising his hand in a manner similiar to awarding an indirect free
kick(but he was telling lineswoman to put flag down)
