 Todayfm this morning (8.30ish sports roundup) said that Roddy Collins is linked with the vacant managerial position at Bohs. Please, please somebody tell me this is a fabrication of Roddy or the media and bears no relation to the reality!

And who did the linking??? You know the Social Welfare make you apply for jobs after nearly a year of unemployment.

Me too.:D I know he signed a fair few old duds in his time at Dublin City but he did bring McCourt and Gavin into Rovers. He could well squander the money but he has the contacts and the impetus to go out and try to imrpove the quality of his squad from outside of the league. He's also a publicity whore and you know what they say about any publicity.

I'm sure the linking was done by the Rodster himself, probably during his Newstalk slot. I'd like to take this opportunity to throw my hat in the ring too... now I'm just as linked to the Bohs job as Roddy!

He was up front and honest (refreshing in a league where one manager gets treated like a hero for negotiating with another club before deciding after all he's happy where he is) on Off the Ball last night, admitting that he's applied for the job and that it would be a dream come true if he got it. He even admitted that he "got a lot of things wrong off the pitch" during his spell as Bohs manager, but that he was young and had learned from it. All in all, he is a serious candidate and it's no harm to have someone talking up the job in the media.

do ye think he could get Bohs relegated too?
that would be 3 clubs in a row.
Bohs would be better off hiring my ma for all the good roddy will do them.
My mum has no football experience, but shes never been relegated, she thinks Man United are good (so she doesnt have a f**Kin clue) and would gladly slap Ollie for being a wee runt.
Im willing to act as her agent and we will settle for 100,000 a year, plus a bonus for not gettin relegated like Roddy will.
I shall await the call from Bohs

Roddy "The Eircom League is really Rubbish" Collins? The guy is the most arrogant, self-promoting waste of space that has ever graced the league here and I would hate to see him given another chance at screwing up. I'd even take Dolan ahead of him - at least he seem to have real genuine enthusiasm for the league and for irish football in general.

It's in the Indo too. Says it would be a 'dream come true' and admits that he 'made mistakes', although he doesn't say what mistakes.

I would imagine going to Florida(?) on holidays after doing the double, instead of staying at home to negotiate a new contract and prepare for the European game(s) would have been one. The public statements he made to the effect that the people running the club were "dinosaurs" (regardless of accuracy :) )didn't do any good either. There are other rumours which I won't go into. :(

The league is rubbish. And it is corrupt. And it is backward. Roddy is self-serving (Fenlon isn't? Dolan isn't?), arrogant, and wouldn't be my choice of manager. But he managed Bohs to the double and consecutive away wins matches in Europe. Those outstanding achievements make him a serious candidate whether I, or anyone else likes it or not.
Dolan ha(s)d a great enthusiasm for Irish football until he decided to make his living out of presenting football on Setanta, where he has become just another irrelevant media personality.

Come on though it would be funny. They could make a show called how to lose 45 million in a week. Sign the Graveyard squad like Effenberg and batistuta etc (not forgetting Carlton Palmer) and dress them in designer pin strip kits. Plus im sure roddy would have some sound investments up his shelve.
I know id watch.

Should Bohs qualify for the UEFA Cup/ Champs League Qualifiers would Roddy pull them out of the competition in favour for the Intertoto to avoid embarrassement as he argued during the Cork - Red Star game or do you think he see's himself as an exception to his smug declarations on the state of the league?;)
I'll be honest, if this comes to pass i'll have a wee chuckle over a pint!

Didn't he release a statement a while ago saying he has no plans to return to Ireland to manage, but is still looking for a management job?

Yeah, he showed that he'd learnt from it at Rovers:rolleyes:
