14-09-06; Points Deduction Appeal Dismissed
Despite the quite bizarre and completely unprecedented set of circumstances surrounding the Paul Shiels suspension case, the appeal by Shamrock Rovers against a three-point deduction has been summarily dismissed by the FAI Appeal Board.
The board of Shamrock Rovers is extremely disappointed with the decision which it feels ignored the complexities of the situation and the compelling mitigation produced at the appeal. The appeal decision as handed down today states; "Appeal Dismissed. Shamrock Rovers did play a suspended player (Paul Shiels) against Dundalk on the 23/07/06 and as per rule the Board of Control were correct in deducting 3 points".
The club is considering its options.
