from skysports:

Derry City face Paris Saint Germain in one of the biggest games in their history on Thursday.

The Irish side welcome the stars of French giants of PSG to The Brandywell for the first leg of their first round Uefa Cup tie.

The Eircom League outfit are set to be backed by a sell-out crowd, as they look to cause a major shock.

Derry boss Stephen Kenny has close to a fully fit squad to choose from for the game.

Mark Farren and Sean Hargan are expected to shake off light knocks to take their place in the side.

Peter Hutton is expected to return to the defence, while Pat McCourt and Killian Brennan are hoping to start the game.

Derry are unbeaten at home in 2006 and they will be looking to maintain that record against PSG to give them hope of progressing to the next round.

PSG have endured a miserable start to the season and were beaten 3-1 by arch-rivals Marseille last time out.

The French capital side sit in 15th spot in the Ligue 1 table and coach Guy Lacombe is under increasing pressure.

PSG are missing key trio Vikash Dhorasoo, Edouard Cisse and Jerome Rothen.

Portuguese star Pauleta could also be rested, as PSG prepare for this weekend's clash away to Monaco.

Good luck to Derry tonight. Hope you play your normal football and don't afford PSG too much respect - seems to be the recurring mistake of EL teams in Europe. You're well capable of getting a result tonight, and then you can cut your cloth in France.

Derry clear the ball off the line twice, although, handball should have been given against PSG for the second. PSG on top at the moment.

Report from the PSG site...

...as translated by Babel Fish!

Any remainder to be made

If the suspense remains whole before the return match, Paris however seems to have carried out the good operation of the evening by not boxing the least goal in Ireland. By aligning one eleven of new departure, Guy Lacombe also wished remobiliser the whole of his group after the match against Marseilles. Now remain to confirm in 15 days with the Park.

In Brandywell Stadium, Derry

If there are atypical displacements in Europe of football, this one in fact incontestably part! Applauded at the time of their entry on the lawn, the players of the PSG lived this evening a certainly single experiment. With the image of the supporters Parisiens, which had fun the festival all the afternoon with their Irish counterparts, the good spirit was of setting during the 90 minutes of this meeting. On the lawn and in the steps! A sufficiently rare fact in modern football to be underlined.

But let us return on the green rectangle or the debates become animated very quickly at this beginning of match. Far from being impressed, the players of Derry indeed dare the first striking of the evening. The attempt at Brennan does not worry however Landreau which evolves/moves with a strapping around the head following its shock with Beye.

Pushed by its formidable public, this semi-professional Irish formation shows with the wire of the minutes that it did not eliminate Gothenburg by chance. Brennan, still, takes this time its chance since the entry of the Parisian penalty area. An outside of the left which runs up against the transversal of Landreau (17th). Here are which recalls to the players of the PSG the real intentions of Candystripes.

The PSG gets finally its first occasion after 28 minutes of play on stopped kick. Rozehnal deviates of the head the striking of Paulo Cesar and obliges Forde to carry out its first stop of the match. Paris plays then higher and presses this formation of Derry in its half of ground. Logically, the Parisian occasions multiply with the image of this head of Traoré, consecutive with a corner of Paulo Cesar, pushed back on its line by a defender (31e), or of this striking out of pivot of Frau (34e).

The Parisian pressure still assembles notch with this striking of Baning pushed back by an Irish tibia on the line of goal (38e). The gatekeeper of Derry remains the player more solicited with a new head of Frau, on a center of Diané (42e). A lack of realism which starts to aggravate Guy Lacombe whereas the Slovak referee of the meeting, Mr Havrilla, returns the 22 actors to the cloakrooms.

The PSG tackles this second period with the favour of the slope, the ground having the characteristic to count uneven of 2 meters a post of corner to the other.

Vis-a-vis with this incapacity "to kill" the match, the Parisian trainer replaces Diané by Pauleta (70e). The Portuguese gives voice immediately and asks his troops to press higher. Paying efforts since Baning recovers the balloon and connects by a striking collected well by Forde (73e). Is followed from there then a series of strike Parisian always countered by an Irish leg. In spite of the ceaseless songs of the fans of Derry, the buildings do not manage to find the fault in the Parisian defense articulated around the Armand captain. A last opening of Pauleta obliges Forde to leave its line of goal, but Brandywell Stadium will preserve its two inviolate goals until the end. For Paris, any remainder thus to make with the Park Princes in two weeks. In a similar environment?

Sorry for my ignorance, but are Derry Pro, Semi-pro or a bit of both?I keep hearing contrasting reports

Pro largely, I think. Clice Delaney would be about the only semi-pro who gets a regular game when he's fit. A Derry fan may correct me on that though.

Christ but they are obsessed by the slope on the Brandywell pitch!

Poor first half by Derry, much better 2nd half, but still think we have more to give.

Great to see a big name team come to Ireland & play one up front & pack midfield, that's respect.

PSG fans very friendly & very loud, arriving with cuts & black eyes after the Marseille game at the weekend!

Might be wrong but I think Ciaran Martyn works in Derry as an accountant as well.

And Gary Beckett's a postman.

Well done, Derry. You (team and fans) did the league proud. Stonewall penalty - absolutely no argument. It'll be extremely difficult in the second leg, but I'm slowly learning never to underestimate Derry. Kelly was outstanding. Killian Brennan the best attacking outlet. Pity McCourt looked off the pace and Farren and Beckett weren't on long enough to make too many inroads going forward. I've seen Molloy and Martyn play a lot better too.

For what it's worth, I'd go:
Forde 7
McCallion 7
Hargan 7
Kelly 9
Oman 8
McCourt 5
Martyn 6
Molloy 6
Deery 7
Brennan 8
McHugh 7

Beckett 6
Farren 7
