Cork climb after impressive win


Cork City claimed an important and impressive win tonight as they ran out 3-0 winners at the Showgrounds in Sligo, moving up to fourth in the Premier Division of the eircom League in the process.

Roy O'Donovan's early goal sent Cork on their way but Cork's faltering season may have gotten just the boost it needed when John O'Flynn got back on the score-sheet for the first time since returning from a two and a half month injury layoff. His tenth goal of the season came in the closing fifteen minutes, his first goal since the winner against Drogheda on 23rd June. Neale Fenn added the third just before the end to inflict just a second home loss on Sligo this season.

O'Grady disappointed with Sligo defeat


Conor O'Grady and team-mates hang their heads after a shot by O'Grady went wide last night. Sligo Rovers midfielder Conor O'Grady has expressed his disappointment with last night's 3-0 defeat to Cork City in the eircom League Premier Division clash at The Showgrounds.

A win would have put the westerners into third spot in the table. Speaking to RTÉ Radio's Pat McAuliffe, he said: 'It is disappointing yes, I don't think the scoreline was a fair reflection of the game to be honest.

This is a strange season. If we had dropped this many points last season, no way would we have had a chance of finishing near the top.
As it is, the top four teams are dropping points all over the place. It must be heartening for the lads to realise that they are still in touch with the league leaders.
