Sorry to make a personal attack here. But I have just finished reading the latest FourFiveOne and I saw that Fonzi wanted to nicknme John O Flynn. he wanted to call him Joffy. Sorry now Fonzi, but that IMO is ridiculous. Players earn nicknmes, not get given a thing like Joffy.

Something relevant to his past ie Skippy is called so because of his time spend in Oz.

ps. Good read 451. Loved the Beauts and Teds bit. How bloody true.

I'd agree that it is better to earn a nickname but you can hardly say that Cronin earned the nickname Gaz, it was just a shortening of his name.

Flynnie was too easy an obvious and using JOFY is a semi-eL tradition, Tony O'Connor being called TOCY and all.

What is the nickname of the Club he played for in England, that might help come up with a new nickname

Quinn The Eskimo, a Dylan Classic

Come on without,
Come on within,
You've not seen nothing like the mighty Quinn

or in this case

Come on without,
Come on within,
You've not seen nothing like the mighty Flynn

or, how 'bout

Come on without,
Come on within,
You've not seen nothing like O'Callaghan

:D
