BUSY DAYS AT MONS
Fresh from their excellent 2-2 draw with Shamrock Rovers on Friday last, which moved them from the bottom of the table, Monaghan United’s senior team head to local rivals Dundalk for what will undoubtedly be an interesting clash on Thursday night (7th September). Oriel Park games always prove to be a fan’s favourite with the biggest away support of the year heading along. Dundalk are currently riding high in the league in joint first place with Shamrock Rovers. Rovers have a game in hand and when Mons play Dundalk they will have 2 games in hand over their nearest competitors. The prize of going top of the table and shaking up Rovers will have Dundalk gunning for glory against their neighbours on Thursday night but if last Friday’s performance is anything to go by, United will not make it easy for them.

Monaghan United’s team performance against Rovers was very positive and Mick Cooke will be looking to build on this good form against the Louth team. Following from this Thursday United will be taking on Athlone Town FC at Century Homes Park on Tuesday night (12th September). Tuesday night games against Athlone are traditionally a good omen for United, in the last midweek game against them, Monaghan romped home to victory with 4 goals without reply. David Lee will be hoping that he can add to his 8 goal tally this season, which has him as 2nd highest scorer in the league, and catch up with ex-Monaghan United Striker Phillip Hughes who has 4 more in the bag.

So remember Dundalk – v – Monaghan United tonight at Oriel Park, @ 7.45 and Monaghan United – v – Athlone Town Tuesday 12th September at Century Homes Park @8pm.

CHARLENE GRAHAM CALLED UP FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAINING
Monaghan United’s Charlene Graham has received the honour of being called up to the Republic of Ireland Senior Squad for 2 day’s training this week. This is an astonishing feat for the young Monaghan woman who has never played football, other than with family and friends on her housing estate green, until she joined the Monaghan United Ladies team who were only formed in October. So in less than a year of playing football, Charlene has impressed Noel King enough to be called for the training sessions and it is quite likely she will be in the squad for the Republic of Ireland’s friendly against Italy this Saturday and could quite possibly earn her first cap.

Coach Chris McBride said “I was delighted when Charlene got called up. She is one of our strongest players & consistently works hard at her game. She is an inspiration to all female footballers & the rest of the girls can aspire to similar success”

Good Luck Charlene, all of Monaghan are behind you.

MAY LADY LUCK BE WITH THEM!
Good luck to the Monaghan United Ladies Team as they take part in their first ever Cup Final. Monaghan United Ladies were formed in October last year and have had a very successful first season playing football. They have finished 3rd in their league and have strung together good League and FAI Cup runs, cumulating with their upcoming final in the Inter Ladies League Shield this Sunday. The game kicks off at Dublin Bus Grounds in Lucan at 2pm. Ladies, you have already done the Club proud in your first season and we wish you all the best on Sunday.

SCHOOLBOYS SEASON KICKS OFF
Good luck to all the Monaghan United Schoolboy Teams taking part in the Dundalk District Schoolboys League which commences this weekend. Parents are encouraged to come out and support their child’s team. Could all managers please forward match reports to julieann_sherlock@hotmail.com or drop into the letterbox at Century Homes Park no later than MONDAY nights.
