Byes for Rockmount, Bangor, Crumlin and Douglas Hall, all contenders. Especially Crumlin on their new Astro-pitch.

Possible upsets in Dublin, don't know the Cork scene that well

Can't argue with that, a bye is always nice. Looks like we won't get a league game in until Christmas at this rate so nice to have a break in the heavy schedule!

I suppose of the Munster section Drummer the three below are the most interesting, not necessarily cos of upset's, just good exciting games on paper.

UCC AFC V Avondale United FC
Castleview United AFC V Mayfield United FC
Tramore Athletic FC V College Corinthians FC

Result from yesterday
UCC 0-2 Avondale Utd

Dale went 1 up and then lost keeper Dave O'Keeffe midway through the 1st half, looked to be a twisted knee. UCC applied a lot of pressure and when they looked as if they might get a draw gave away a silly penalty late on and though Knowlesys kick was saved, the rebound was dispatched, game over.

Five I think - last 16 are in round 6 if IIRC.

You are right, last 16 of intermediate cup plus the last 4 of the FAI Junior cup play in Round 1 of the FAI Senior cup.

All EL sides get a bye to Round 2 of the FAI Senior Cup

Round 2 - 32 Games played this weekend

9 in Munster
4 in Ulster
19 in Leinster

By my reckoning these 32 winners will become 16 in Round 4.

CYM Terenure are poor, in terminal decline

St Mochtas play a good brand of attacking football on a decent pitch, but Rockmount should be too strong for them.

Skerries have just been promoted to the Top Division of the LSL after a protracted appeal/counter appeal with St james Gate. They play in a small compact ground. They are a very physical side, who are not renowned for their attractive, however they will be a tough nut to crack. I think they knocked Monaghan United out of the FAI Cup a few years ago.

As drummerboy said, a tough physical side not relmowned for attractive football. Wathc out for the long throw into the penalty area - it's been the undoing of many

What happened with that?

Cheers lads. Any good players we should be wary of...? :ball:

drummerboy
30/11/2006, 11:46 AM
It was a protest based on players from EL clubs joining LSL clubs without the proper clearance papers. SJG and Skerries weren’t the clubs directly involved but teams they both played against. Anyway Skerries won after a very complex case went to arbitrtion. The SJG manager left for Bluebell and took most of the team.

You can read all about it here

about half way down is a blow by blow account

After that

St James Gate went to arbitrition who turned down their appeal.

No idea about the betting centre mid, if you find out I'd be interested though.

St Mochta's vs Rockmount has been moved from Sunday afternoon to Saturday at 5 in Dalymount Park. I assume it cos of pitch playability, but not sure to be honest.

I was going to go to it on Sunday, but working now on Sat. Bummer.

I'd expect Rockmount to be too strong for St Moctas, who are decent enough this year, but in the 3rd division of LSL. A nice footballing team.

Mochta's are a nice footballing sideand while they may now be in 1A, they are as good as some of, if not better than Senior league teams.

Christy McElligott has made a great difference to the club and I wouldn't be surprised to see them turn over Rockmount on Saturday evening.

Is this The Mochtas team that got beaten by CIE Ranch out of Senior 1B a couple of weeks ago on the cup..??
There is no way they are better than any of the Senior Division sides and I reckon Dalymount Park may work to Rockmount's advantage as they are a very fit side and very good footballing team..my prediction now is 3-0 for Rockmount.

From today's Donegal News

FAI Intermediate Cup – Round 3

Tigers Roar To Last Sixteen

Skerries Town………1
Kildrum Tigers……...2

Report by Chris McNulty

GARETH MULLEN netted a goal just two minutes after being introduced as a second half substitute against Skerries Town FC to send Kildrum Tigers into the last 16 of the FAI Intermediate Cup for the first time in their history.
Yesterday afternoon’s clash was, as expected, a hard fought encounter, but in the end the St Johnston representatives didn’t let down their guard after hitting the front for the second time and they now join Fanad United as Donegal’s flag bearers in the next round.
Skerries had caused what was termed to have been the upset of the round in their previous round clash as they ousted Wayside Celtic (who famously dumped Finn Harps from the senior cup back in 1997) with a fine 2-1 victory over a side which had been tipped to go quite a distance this year.
Kildrum meanwhile had qualified for this round by virtue of an excellent two-nil win over arch-rivals Letterkenny Rovers and they were aiming to make the last 16 having missed out last year.
This time 12months ago, Fanad United knocked Kildrum out of the cup after the sides had unusually drawn each other despite making it through to the national stages.
‘Keeper John Roulstone came to Kildrum’s rescue on 20minutes when he was out well to dent Brendan Moore from firing Skerries into the lead after the lively frontman had weaved his way through the Tigers defence.
However, three minutes later, it was the travelling band of followers who were celebrating the opening goal.
Glen Bovaird worked a short corner back to Dermot Kelly and he sent in a teasing cross from the right which Russell Porter nodded down for Tommy McDonald.
In space on the edge of the six-yard box, McDonald needed no second invitation as he shot low beyond Eamonn Byrne in the Skerries goal.
Thereafter in the first period, it was pretty even in terms of possession with Kildrum coping well against what was a physical Skerries side who certainly weren’t to be found wanting in terms of hard challenges.
The hosts almost got back on level terms on the stroke of half time, but Martin Beggs saw his left footed effort from the corner of the penalty box turned over by Kildrum netminder Roulstone.
Skerries came out with all guns blazing at the start of the second half and they were back on level terms 13 minutes in when substitute Barry Davey was on hand to tap home at the back post after Roulstone saved a header from Moore.
However, Kildrum were soon back in the ascendancy as Gareth Mullen got on the end of a Ronan Coyle pass, powered past the defence and slotted home from close range.
Dermot Kelly denied Skerries a way back into the contest soon after when he was alert to divert Martin Beggs’ goalbound effort off the goal-line while Glen Bovaird nearly put the game out of Skerries’ reach, but the butt of the post came to Eamon Byrne’s rescue.
The Leinster Senior League outfit had their misery compounded with eleven minutes left when goalscorer Barry Davey was shown his marching orders for a push on Russell Porter right in front of referee Tommy Geoghegan.
The Tigers should have added a third in stoppage time, but Johnny McGinty hesitated after rounding the ‘keeper and the chance was gone.
It mattered little however as the final whistle was soon blown by the match referee and Kildrum’s place in the last 16 was sealed.

Skerries Town: Eamon Byrne; Ben Gahan, Dermot Kelly, Paul Doherty, Niall Bolger; Martin Beggs, Neil Gallagher, Steven Beattie, Cian Connolly; Graham O’Flaherty, Brendan Moore. Subs: Barry Davey (for Connolly, 44mins); Gary Woodhead (for Kelly, 73mins); Darren Barlow (for Gallagher, 82mins).

Kildrum Tigers: John Roulstone; Dermot Kelly, Mark Callaghan, Paul Lynch, Paul Callaghan; Russell Porter, Glen Bovaird, Garrett Callaghan, Keith Hegarty; Tommy McDonald, Ronan Coyle. Subs: Gareth Mullen (for McDonald, 64mins); Johnny McGinty (for G.Callaghan, 87mins).

Referee: Tommy Geoghegan

In horrible conditions , both teams battled well and played out a fairly end to end match with alot of the play happening around the midfield area..Belgrove Goalkeeper scored from just outside his 18 yard box with a long punt ..Casement keeper left redfaced..That was about 10 mins before half time..second half casement began the stronger then Royal Rumble ended up with Eamon Lynch Belgrove and one of the Casement players heading for a early shower..The grove's fitness told from 60 mins on as the Cork Lads dropped with cramps all over the camp..grove got second goal with 20 to go and could have had more as casement were reduced to 9 men..All in all very happy with the win and hope for a favourable draw preferably home in the last 16..bring on Crumlin or Bangor..!!
