HAven't seen this posted yet, the Belgian U-21's came from 1-0 down against Greece to win 2-1 and qualify for the play off phase of the U-21 Championship, knocking out Ireland in the process.
Queue Don Givens talking about "planning for the future with the next batch of players" and how that team is "the best squad I've worked with at this level", before it descends into "my job is to provide the senior side with players" and inevitably back to "planning for the future...."

Just out of curiosity, how many senior players have come through the U-21's in recent years? Off the top of my head I can only think of Elliott, I would expect Flood, Whelan and McCarthy to join him before long, but other than that?? McGeady doesn't really count because he played for the senior team first, ditto Dixon.

Watched the game in Terryland v Belgium, I thought that Paul McShane has potential to make the step up. Ireland were destroyed on the night by Belgiums right winger Tom De mul. Definetly a name to watch in the future.

I didn't even know they were playing last night. That's a pity. No more U21 football for a long time now with this new format.

Kevin Doyle, Stephen Kelly and Henderson all played regularly for the U21s too. Not sure you can include Alan O'Brien considering he could hardly make the U21 squad. :)

He looked decent but I think it was more down the fact he was up against Painter who is a centre back and had a terrible game.
