On the front page of the Champion today is a report on a novel idea by the club. Three pairs of tickets for the upcoming Man Utd/Liverpool game in October are to be raffled off at the St Pats game on September 23rd. The tickets have been donated by the local United supporters club, only people who pay on the gate on the night will avail of this. Accommadation and flights are also included, in an idea to get more people through the turnstiles and also as a thank you gesture for the loyal Rovers supporters that turn up every second weekend.

Well its a thank you gesture to the supporters as anything else, this was well emphasised in the Champion so it would be pure daft if they were not included.

It certainly is a very novel idea. Great to see some thought been put into attracting more bums on seats.
Well done to the Man U supporters club for donating the prize. It's a great prize, so it should bring out the bar stoolers.

agree with wild rovers point, but i might sell them and give 1/2 to Rovers instead...or spend half of it on half time lotto tickets ;)

this is a brilliant idea do yee have any idea what this costs fair play to man u supporters club and v. nally. he has already raised e 30,000 from golf classic this year for rovers.he should be richly applauded. in the last 4 years he has donated over e100,000 to sligo rovers. let nobody and i mean absolutely nobody be critical of this fund raiser. the cost of this is approx e 5,000. there is a huge campagne been run over the next few weeks to promote this. lets hope there is a hughe response. if we can keep the momentum going great things can begin to happen. our job here is to talk positive about this venture and spread the gospel. i want to hear no negativity. this month is of vital importance to the club we play bohs, cork, st pats and killester at home. look at the revenue flow here isnt it time the hard working voluntary committe menbers got a fininancial break. there are .s ome great people there. lets sing there praises for a change and with a little bit of luck along te way we could make the cup final. i just have agood feeling that sean is a lucky manager. keep the faith lads!

Well fair play to the Manchester Utd Supporters Club for donating the tickets that goes without saying. The way in which I think it may be a wee bit dodgy is if all these people will turn up just to enter the draw and intend on coming to the Showgrounds for one match only. We need something more to entice fairweather Rovers fans back to the Showgrounds FOR GOOD.The draw is a good idea but I feel that something more needs to be done by our Commercial Manager.

Might there be some overlap between these two groups?

There's always one!!! If the bar stoolers were at the Longford game, and seen for themselves the 2 crackers that Singh scored. I'm sure they would come back again. I'm convinced that a fair proportion will return when they see whats on offer.
Well done to whoever is behind this venture. I've been saying it for a long time, promote the game and the crowds will come in.

Good stuff from RedArrow, good comment. Great Idea, its all about getting people thru the turnstiles and let them see how good the football is at the Showgrounds. How some people can say this could be a "bit dodgy" is ridiculous, its a novel idea....and a great prize for the winner. Come on the Bit O' Red

it(the man u ticket thing)is a good idea but why not have a mini blitz on at half time involving different schools every week. like tuesday except bigger. therefore more children and more parents coming to matches.

why not have a family season ticket with allocated seats in the stand? or maybe just a one off family ticket?

why not invite youth soccer clubs to be special guests at a game and invite them to meet the players after the game. maybe under 10's nd 12's

Free child tickets are another option...

I think the dark evenings will bring back a certain amount of fans .Speaking to a few Sat evening the weather was so bad that any other p[lans they had for the evening were abandoned great chance to get to a match.
