Starting line up: Quigley, Mahon, McNally, Shorthall, Kenna, McWalter(Hurley 52), Crowley, McDonnell, Doyle, Finn, Sammon.

Match reports don't give too much information other than Quigley saved a penalty in the 47th minute, Derry had one chance saved in the first half and had two chances late on in the game. Dazza was in superb form apparently.

Derry forum seemed to say that we played well, kept the ball on the deck when we had it and that a point was the fair result. Also said that Quigley and Finn had great games.

I can only assume that Dicker was left out to add more steel to the midfield, although I feel he is a good ball winner in the middle of the park.

Bring on Pats. I think we can beat them next Friday. Good that we've moved back to an evening kickoff as the atmosphere will be improved. A win will put us into 7th, and with Sligo playing Bohs one of them at least will have to drop points.

A good result, though a shame to draw a blank on the road yet again.. and very encouraging to hear of another good performance from Finn ... sounds like just the creative spark we've been lacking these last two seasons

I heard from a mate that was there as a neutral that UCD played for the draw Quigley got man of the match that says it all. Dicker on the bench whats that all about, maybe he's being punished for being an international it's a bit of a joke really . I reckon he's as good as gone now.:D :D he'd fit in well at pats.

Superb result - best away result we've had in ages. Couldn't care less if we set out for a draw and played defensive - against a team who's won every single one of the domestic home games, and had won their previous 12 league games, that's a bloody superb point to take.

Moves us up above Longford too. :)

Ahh come superb result ? you must be joking how can you call a 0-0 game a superb result. what happened to 11 v 11 men trying to play football to win, from what i heard ucd spoiled the game and couldnt string 2 passes together. If Quigley wasnt there you could have had another Shelbourne on your hands:D

It's better than anyone else has managed up there.

Apart from Gretna.

I think thegit's right. We should be thrown out of the league for having the audacity to get a point from an important team. :)

I think that calling it 'superb' is a step too far.
It was a good result but you can't call a draw against any team in the league 'superb'.

In absence of a pineapple report, here's the Times'. It sounds like we under a lot of pressure and hanging on for a point

Derry fail to find a way past Quigley

National League Premier Division
Derry City 0 UCD 0
Darren Quigley was hailed the UCD hero at a packed Brandywell last night, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 keeper, ending Derry City's 100 per cent home record in this National League, Premier Division match.

Quigley not only saved a 47th minute penalty, but he pulled off a series of top drawer saves to also deny Derry leadership of the Premier Division.

Of course Pete Mahon's men also held Derry at Belfield and full credit to the team boss whose tactics worked well last night.

His opening 4-5-1 formation may have saw the game suffering as a spectacle, but Derry clearly struggled to get through that flooded midfield area, particularly in the opening half.

In a game which saw few scoring chances, Derry may have bossed the ball but the lively students were always very dangerous on the counter-attack.

And with their lone front man, Conor Sammon, producing an excellent performance when holding up the ball, Derry could take nothing for granted.

In the 18th minute a Paddy McCourt effort was deflected wide at the expense of a corner while Derry's Ciaran Martyn lashed a shot into the side netting when he really should have done better.

The best scoring chance of the opening half arrived in the 33rd minute and but for the brilliance of UCD keeper the home side would have broken the deadlock.

The Students failed to adequately clear a Kevin Deery corner and when the ball broke the unmarked Darren Kelly, the Derry defender's effort was superbly touched around his post by the UCD keeper.

Following the change of ends, Derry switched to a 4-3-3 formation and that ploy certainly changed the pattern of the game.

Indeed, Derry were awarded a penalty in the 47th minute when McCourt was upended by Conor Kenny [sic] but again Quigley burst to he fore when saving substitute, Stephen O'Flynn's spotkick.

In the 59th minute, Sammon controlled a punt forward before setting up Ronan Finn but he failed to get his shot on target.

Quigley saved again from O'Flynn following a Kevin Deery cross as Derry attempted to force the issue and Sean Hargan went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 69th minute, his shot narrowly wide.

DERRY CITY: Forde; McCallion (O'Flynn, half-time), Kelly, Oman Hargan; McCourt, Molloy, Martyn, Deery (McGlynn, 85 mins); Beckett, McHugh (Farren, 60 mins).

UCD: Quigley; Mahon, McNally, Shortall, Kenna; McWalter (Hurley, 52 mins.), Crowley, McDonnell, Finn, Doyle; Sammon.

Well, maybe a bit excessive. But nobody's managed it all this season - something like 12 straight wins in Derry this year. And our away record's hardly inspirational either! So it's a bloody good result, and one I'll certainly settle for!

Now if only we could do well against the minnows...like Pat's on Friday... :)

Frustrating night as a Derry fan, but I thought UCD played well. They played defensively when they had to but still managed a few good moves and created a few scary moments in the Derry penalty area. Knew it would be a tough match and was proved right. UCD seem to have replaced Longford as our bogey team.

Just worried in case this weekend becomes the 'what if' weekend at the end of the season with shels getting a late, late winner on friady and ourselves missing a penalty yesterday. Think we probably deserved a goal, but a good performance overall by UCD.

Lads, your back 4 and central midfield 2 were very solid and impressive. UCD played well without creating much. We created about 3 half chances. I would have expected any goalkeeper to save the weak efforts that came on the night, including the peno, which was at a nice height for a save. We were devoid of ideas, which was a credit to your team. You out fought Derry in all the battles, and that is the first time I have seen this in a long time at the brandywell. I wondered how Shels beat you 6 - 0 after watching you play so doggedly last night?

I would imagine a serious root up the hole was delivered after that game, and it's worked. Three very impressive away results in a row actually - 1-0 v Sligo, 0-0 v Longford and now v Derry.

That Shels game is one major anomaly on a reasonable run of form since May. Excluding the Dublin City game only Longford have scored more than one goal against us in that period. We've only lost 3 times and that includes Shels and Cork. The problem is that we're drawing most of our games and rarely winning. We should really have put away wins in the Bray and Longford games a couple of months ago.

Saw the highlights on TV3. Good penalty save from Quigley, but our shooting was appalling when we got forward! Got into some nice positions, but the shots were like backpasses!

The text of the article says that Kenny said that we spoiled the game with our formation. Kenny never said that we spoiled the game or critized us for the playing the way we did.
