It's not cider either. But hey, a lot of people like it.

Kopparberg is cider.
The most common one is Pear Cider but you can get Apple, Strawberry, Blueberry, Blueberry/Lime, Elderberry, Elderberry/Lime, Raspberry, Raspberry/Blackcurrent, Summer Fruits, etc. and they're still cider...
Be warned, that Raspberry & Blackcurrent stuff is 8.5% :D
Had a bit of a cider drinking phase in Scandanavia. ;)
Koparrberg isn't brewed as a cider though, is it not? I thought flavours etc were all added closer to bottling.
The 7% mixed fruits is lethal! :D

Asahi Super Dry from Japan is nice
Also Erdinger, Spaten and Paulaner.
Had that Kopperberg last friday (Mixed Fruit) Rocket fuel but a M.A.S.S.I.V.E hangover so will be leaving it alone.

If something is made up of carbonated water, pear wine, flavours and additives, then in my book it's not a cider (or a perry) but closer to a spritzer, or alcopop.
As I said, I don't doubt it's popularity, but cider it ain't, if you ask me.

Defo a cider
Apart from that the hard to find Argentine Quilmes slips down very easily and Hamburg's Astra is great stuff.
My local off license did that at €1 a bottle for a while. Lovely beer. Another one for the holidays is Estrella Damm if you're ever in Barcelona (or Salou). Haven't seen it outside Catalunya though

Branded as a cider, yes. And a link to their UK distributors won't tell me anything liable to change my mind.
People love it, though and that's fine. A little too sickly sweet for me.
As Al Murray might say, it's a fruit based beverage.

And your definition of cider isn't?
Yes, it is. But that doesn't make all fruit drinks cider.

Kopparberg is a 'made-wine'.
It comprises both cider, that is, fermented fruit juice, and also pear/apple/etc wine, and then a hold load of sugar and flavourings and stuff.
The ingredients are on the back, or at least used to be. They've been selling it in Derry for years, but it's catching on more so recently.
Rotten stuff, imo. Working in a bar, it seems to be be used as a replacement for alco-pops by their drinkers, and hasn't really affected the sale of Bulmers.
On Bud Ice, it's widely available in Derry. Again, rotten stuff.
Started drinking a lot of Beck's recently, although the small bottles (275ml) is a bit annoying.
Astra is a great German beer, haven't seen it over here. Also taken a liking to Maes from Belgium, which again, seems to be unavailable over here.
Given the choice, Smithwick's is great from a bottle. More expensive though.

ummmm Kopparbergs....I got a crate of it at cost price for oxegen in my local shop...havent been in since in case they tease me for the broken ankle & re-christen it Hopperbergs....Love the mixed fruit tho....yummmmm

With the recent trend in bottled beers it's easy to forget the Irish reliables like Smithwicks and Guinness Extra.
In saying that, it's great to try new beers.
Summer Lightning is a great summer beer. It's an ale that drinks like a lager (light coloured, well carbonated) with a heavy dose of hops.
I tried Goose Island IPA (or APA, I guess) but found it overly hoppy for my liking.
Spaten and Budvar are good steady lagers that I regularly stock up on. Stella is my weekday 'budget beer' choice.

Sure I've seen an 8% bottle of Cobra, think its called 'King Cobra'
:D
Local Curry house gave myself and a mate free bottles as their official new beer testers:D ! Pretty harsh compared to the standard stuff which I quite like not seen it (the 8% stuff) on open sale anywhere though, probably because my mate ended up asleep in the corner of the curry house:rolleyes:

Depends where I am. In local type boozers; pints, in city centre places; bottles.

I've always found that stuff great for avoiding hangovers! :)

Good shout. If ye like Corona...Pacifico works too. As does Dos Equis, Bohemia, Tecate.
Tecate is very good, a nice beer easy to drink
I find VB a bit harsh, if you can get your mitts on Carlton Cold it is the beer of the gods, as one mate puts it "It's like angels pi$$ing on your tounge!" :D
In terms of Auzzie beer, you can't beat Toohey's Red

A lovely beer.
The only place I have seen it outside Catalunya is in "La Tasca" - a UK chain of tapas restaurants. There's one in The Odyssey complex in Belfast.

Anyone ever drink BAltika (Blue label). Lovely stuff. Tesco good for the foreign beers now. Zyweic is good.
if you can get it anywhere in Ireland try Karlovacko. Well worth it. 7%, big bottle, serve cold. Its a quality beer.

Anyone know why it's near impossible to get Newcastle Brown Ale in bottles* here ?
I absolutely love the stuff but it's quite hard to get here. One offie in Limerick (macs, ennis road) and one in Ennis (on roundabout by St. Flannans) stock it. €3.60 a bottle in Limerick and I think it was even more in Ennis.
I also know one offie in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan stock it (€3.20) and that's it ...three outlets in the entire unoccupied 26. Cross the border to Newry and you can get it for £1.59 (€2.35 approx) and it's in most offies and many pubs all over the north.
Now in all fairness it's probably a good thing I can't get it here too often or too easily but ...why? Why can't the likes of Tesco or Dunnes or even Fine Wines who all have fairly extensive "exotic" beer sections get a beer that's bottled across the water.
*Cans are widely available and are pish. I'd sooner drink paint.

I think Beamish bottle it now in Cork. They used to once upon a time anyway. Also check out Supervalu if there's any close to you, Supervalu in Togher Cork used to have it anyway, but they always had a good selection of beers so might not be the norm.

I know it's not much help to you Lionel, but a local spar here stocks the bottle and the can. The bottle is about €3.30, the can €1.40, and yes they both taste as they are priced.
