Seriously, look back at all the series of this show.

Series 1-3 are dated, but were good for the time

Series 4 is good but slightly dated

Series 5-9 are classics, no-one can argue with that, every episode was comedy gold

Series 10-11 are alright, but the quality really started declining as the series went on

Series 12 onwards are just plain rubbish. No funny jokes, the characters are stale, the stories are rubbish, and they've even ruined Homer. How people still rate this show is beyond me. I mean I used to be a big fan os this show (one of those eejits who know series 1-9 like the back of my hand) but enough is enough, this show has gone the way of Married With Children and stayed on TV for about 5 years too long at this stage

Out-dated for sure, but some classic quotes.....

Can't say i've watched it much in the last 5 years as has gotten gradually worse.

On the otherhand South Park was poor in the first few years but gets better ever year.

Have to say some of the recent new episodes have been far superior to many in the recent past, althogh still far short of the show's highpoint. Still have high hopes for the movie next year

as a simpsons maniac(seriously, im a freak at simpsons stuff!), over the last few years from maybe 2003 on, the show has got, crap, stale, and sh!t. No good storyline and stupid incidents that make no sense even in a cartoon. The episodes from 92-2003, most of them are genius.(especially the Hullabalooza one!)but hopefully after the movie next year, it will be the end of it as no good new episodes come out anymore!;)

I think the writers have resorted to bringing in celebrities to make the episodes appealing but you can't rely on guest appearances alone, the script still has to be wity and have a good storyline. The new episodes in the last year or two have been rediculous and over the top, with no real humour. It's been one of the best programmes on tv in the last 20 years but I think it's time to pull the plug unfortunately

Was brilliant but the recent new episodes have all been cack. Should have pulled the plug two years ago

So we mostly agree that it was genius for long periods but crap now , doesnt mean its over rated though! You could fill 5 pages of threads with all the genius one liners from the show , definetly one of the finest comedy shows ever written

There was a rap one on tonight and it was muck, pure muck. At least the one where Millhouse was doing hip-hop was reasonably funny, Bart doing M+M was just sh!te.

Simpsons will never be out dated, will still be classic for years to come.

Your title implies its all over rated whenalmost everyone enjoys the older shows anyway?

Its better tha Family Guy IMO :/

Maybe I should have refrained the title to 'most over-rated at the moment', although you wouldn't think so with some of the posts on these threads. I was mor referring to people and award ceremonies still gushing about how great the Simpsons still are, added to the fact that I have never once heard a TV critic, or a magazine, or anything criticise the show as being stale.

Personally I think Futurama Series 3 and 4 rank up there with the Simpsons best, as do Family Guy Series 2 and 3, and the last four South Park series

The reason I think the Simpsons is so constantly good is, its cool to watch re runs of it, but watching family guy a second time, tis pure ****e :/

There's a 2 part episode of South Park where they rip Family Guy to shreds, the point being that it's just one inserted joke after another just to show or do something funny, whereas the Simpsons (and South Park) have jokes as part of story development. On the other hand Family Guy is just funny for the sake of being funny and not up its own ass about politics and current events.

Have you seen the episode of South Park where they rip the **** out of the Simpsons? Butters is dressed up as his evil alter-ego, and everytime he thinks up a plan to do something for the day his mate tells him the Simpsons have already done it, no matter how ridiculous the suggestions were. It really showed how stupid some of the Simpsons storylines have become, but the icing on the cake was at the end when Butters comes up with a weird plan to go to Mars and build a death ray and blow up some country, to which his mate confirms that the Simpsons have never done that. Butters starts celebrating but as he is an ad for this week's Simpsons comes on and the episode is about Bart going to Mars to build a death ray to blow up the same country, with Homer at the end shouting 'The Simpsons are going to Mars'....absolute quality parody of how lame the Simpsons have become

Err, sorry to disappoint you but you missed the point completely on that one. According to Trey and Matt themselves, the point of this episode was that everything they came up with, the simpsons had already done it, so there was no point in making an episode about it. So they made an episode about how hard it is to make an episode because the Simpsons have already done it!
Both are confirmed hardcore Simpson's fans, and neither have any great love for Family Guy, hence the 2 parter

To be honest I saw the interview with Trey and Matt talking about that episode and just assumed they were lying. In my eyes its still an almighty **** take of the Simpsons, whether in good nature ot not

If you think that I think you are missing the whole point of Family Guy. Its just far more surreal than the simpsons. It also focus's far more on cultural parody where the Simpsons is more satirical. Agree that series 2 and 3 are the best. I love the episode where the kid (midget) is stuck down the well and the only guy with arms long enough to save her is busy tickling a midget up a tree.

Cartman actually stated that was the point in the episode, I was just saying what he said

When I make jokes they are inherent to a story! Deep situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and has a point, not just one random interchangeable joke after another!

The Simpsons is definitely not over-rated even if people, like me, are tired of it. It spawned new phrases, changed culture and invented a whole genre of adult cartoons. It is the longest running sit-com of all time. So certainly not over-rated. I still prefer Family Guy myself.

The most over-rated TV show is Lost - what a pile of rubbish that is. Prison Break follows in a close 2nd place for crapness.

as the Simpsons have got less and less funny, you can still appreciate Homers humour....without him the show wouldnt be worth watching, the same as Cartman in Southpark.

Was watching Family Guy the other night and Peter ended up going to his daughters prom with a 17 year old.

When she came down the stairs in her outfit he was heard exclaim "sweet statutory!!!!" :D

I was then heard falling off the couch.:D

Simpsons still rocks and if they cancelled it ye'd be pussin' to have it back in weeks.

I liked the Simpsons alot when I was younger. I used to watch them at 7pm on Sky everynight but now the shows just shown too much. Sky alone show about 4 episodes a day. Give me Futurama, Family Guy or South Park anyday.

It's a pity cos it used to be a good show but now there are just too many episodes on telly. The new ones aren't as good and the old ones are played to death.
