KILDARE County’s match against Waterford United is already the most important game in the club’s very short history.

A win will be enough to send the Thoroughbreds into the final of the First Division Cup. Kildare currently sit at the top of the First Division Cup South Section table, with 10 points after three wins and one draw- a nil-nil at home against Cobh Ramblers.

Waterford United have had one win, a draw and two defeats so far this season. Having just beaten Kilkenny City at home, Waterford will be going into this game with renewed confidence.

Waterford United’s manager is Jimmy McGeough who took over in March this year. This will be his first full season in charge and he has made a number of new signings during the close season including Daryl Murphy from Luton Town and Alex Dixon from the New York Metrostars.

With nothing to play for but pride, United will be hoping to end their First Division Cup campaign with a good performance to set them up for the league season.

Saturday 9 August Kildare County v Waterford United Station Road Newbridge 7pm.
