Romantics celebrate the 14th February...

Steak and bj enthusiasts enjoy the 14th and 20th of March....

Stoners have 420 (20th of April)...

But the day of the year I am most grateful for is August 18th (http://www.snakesonaplane.com/)...because that's the day Snakes on a Plane hits our screens.

"It's not Gone with the Wind. It's not On the Waterfront. It's Snakes on a Plane!" -- Samuel L. Jackson

well, it didn't get released to the reviewers before it's release date for the newspaper reviews which means, as predicted, it's gonna suck.

Hah - you can't predict anything when Snakes on a Plane are involved! This is the first critic-proof film in history, why should a bunch of tightarsed journos get to see it before anyone else?

They actually got Sam Jackson to go back into the studio and say the line "I want these motherfúckin' snakes off this motherfúckin' plane!" after so many fans said it would be fantastic to hear him say it.

Is this just clever marketing of a sh!te movie? Have they just picked a really dodgy title & play on the whole obvious title, obvious plot thing?

Apparently they sent the script to Jackson on a wing and a prayer and he loved the title.

So much that when he learnt from an interviewer that they were considering changing the title he made the comment in my above post about the importance of the name.

It was meant to be an under the radar b-ish-movie with great dvd sale potential (because of Jackson) but has turned into a potential hit because of internet hype.

Samuel L Jackson hasn't done a good movie in years. Anyway care to name the last one?

I agree they going for so bad it has to be worth watching - doesn't matter if people hate it as already paid their cash.

Aberdonian Stu

Rotten Tomatoes gave it 62%, which isn't bad.

I read the reviews from the NY Post and some Seattle paper and they both said it is exactly what the fans were hoping for.

Going tonight.

I think so. Possibly Unbreakable but he had small part in that.

Jackson just after the money.

I really enjoyed the film. There's a great sense of fun about the whole thing, but you also take the snakes seriously! Check it out!!

A little from Column A and a little from Column B. :D

It was outstanding - I don't see how they could have done a better job of what they were going for. The best thing to do is go and see it early at a late-night showing. And just go along with it! Half the fun is with the crowd reaction (although it's a shame it wasn't more heavily publicised over here).

#1 film at the US box office although the actual numbers are disappointing. I expect it to become a huge 'Rocky Horror'-style cult classic in years to come.

There's no way anybody could go to that film and not know exactly what type of film they're going to.
