Agree its tidier but one of the leagues rules states that there should be no surfaces containing gravel, stones or other loose materials in any ground. And all the surfaces must be concrete or tar macadam?
What is the story with sharing Thomond Park? Is that an option at all?
KOH
It was looked into in the past and the IRFU were more than willing to accomodate but there's two sitting tenants, Bohs  and Shannon and getting in ahead of one or both would take big bucks. :ball:

in fairness i seriously doubt munster rugby would allow football to be played in the spiritual home of irish rugby
Happened on many occasions for European and friendly games, in fairness to the best of my knowledge they've always been pretty good to us
Don't mind all that spiritual home nonsense, thats only to give the yuppies a sense of belonging ;) (cue torrent of abuse for Lim till i Die at next home game :p )

Bohs? Ah well fcuk that then:D
Looks like a greenfield site is the only option then. And if you look at what Bray have done with their new stand and what Drogheda have planned for their new stadium it might not cost tens of millions.

How do Limerick get away with this? We had to close down the River End at Finn Park due to this and had to concrete the surface in the stand at at the TV Gantry end, yet Lims don't have to do a tap...

I take it you've been to St. Mels ya??
We "get away with it" (If by getting away with it you mean ploughing 1000's into something we don't even own in pre-season to bring it up to an acceptable standard) because of the on going saga with our lease. Limerick F.C. due to this $hite has never been able to draw down a grant for Rathbane and won't be able to until said $hite is sorted out :ball:
Wouldnt like to be in that stand when someone sets off a flare

but it's still not at an acceptable standard - as NY Hoop stated, it's in the League's rules that loose surfaces are not permitted. We had to sort Finn Park out in this way and was just querying how Lims can still use part of the stadium with the loose surfaces.
Similarly with St Mel's, although their new ground would have saved them from tidying the current set-up I suspect.

However you got a Premier division licence with loose surface & poor lighting. I accept you have improve things but you did get the licence well in advance.
Lets face it eL ground requirement rules are a joke. Whatever happened the minimum 1500 seats for the Premier?

To be fair, the work was complete for our fourth home game last season. I imagine it was the same as Athlone - their plans for new stadium granted them a licence, our planned work (which we had to show proof of afaik...) got us ours.
But, yeah, the whole thing is a shambles and typifies the nature of those incompetent twits in Merrion Square
