The Republic of Ireland Women’s International team lost 5-0 Olympic Champions USA in the heat of San Diego where temperatures at pitch level reached over 110 degrees at times. With Kick off time scheduled at 13.00 hours to suit the needs of television the Irish were expecting a tough afternoon’s work and so it worked out.

Irish Manager Noel King was a disappointed man after the 90 minutes ‘I can have no complaints with the result or the score line. This US side are a powerful unit, they are strong, quick, disciplined and talented and no matter where or when you play them they will cause you problems and more than likely, beat you well.’

King added, ‘I have always believed in playing better teams in order to improve and I still do but on this occasion I’m not sure we got value for our efforts and the money we spent. The heat levels, the time of the kick off and the ridiculous six minute break at half-time certainly didn’t help us and to be honest in these games we need all the help we can get.’

Yeah a buddy of mine from DCU and his pals got pics with Kinger and the team at the game.

Saw a fair few pics (no actions shots) and a phone video, it looked like awesome weather.

Agree with Sligoman. Was nearly expecting them to break into Riverdance when they were lined up at the start of the match.

American team are good though.
Although I hate the way most americans think football is like any other sport in america.Screaming when they get near the goals and saying offence and de-fence......
also, they dont call it injury time, they call it at the end of regulation time.....rant over.

Not surprised the girls got spanked, when you consider the conditions.

My mate is in that group. The lad in the rugby shirt with short blonde hair, his name is Peter "Frankie" Brennan.

Given how poor the Irish were in their last outing in Dublin, losing 5-0 is a good result against the USA.

They were guests of the US Soccer Federation actually. Ireland regularly get asked to go over to the US and play the National team as warm up to some serious games the USA have coming up. I wish we could get the Yanks to travel here say in November and see how they cope with our winter. :D
